Bucket seats - Resistors question (another one I know...)

  RB 182
Getting mixed reviews when I do a general search on the subject. Some use the 20p ones and have no problems, others do and end up buying the capitalseating ones for £30'ish...

What I'm not sure about is, if I use the 20p ones and they throws up a fault light, can I simply buy the "better quality" capitalseating one and it will knock off the light? Also, will this effect anything if/when I come to install the original seats in? Would the fault need to be cleared before I try it again?

No the fault light will clear when the fault is cleared, (correct resisitance) so all is good. With the capital seating ones your paying for the right connector to snap onto the Renault loom. With a standard resisitor you just push it into the Renault connector. I personally just get some from Maplins. People who have the problems probably have the wrong sized resisitor, you can be given them by untrained shop monkeys ;)

Any links to the exact ones I need.. The 20p ones preferably.. or Maplins model number as there is one just around the corner from me!

all you need to know is the right resistance and get a resistor to match

i'd say something like this should work well

anything between 2-6 ohms will suffice, doesnt have to be an exact number. I Got some 3 ohm ones.

from what i understand ...the airbag light will stay on untill cancelled by a renault CLIP diagnostic machine....and once that has been done the resistor will mean that it does not come back on

Nope! Will clear once the right resistance is there. So, open circuit (resistor off line) results in the AIRBAG light ON, closed circuit with right resistance seen by the ecu, light OFF :)

i don't think you do as the clips for the seat airbgs play up and can be temp fixed with playing with it

ahaaa...so it would have been a good idea to test the resistance of my particular airbagss then.

is it just a minimum resistance? or does it have to be spot on?

most of mine werent 3.3 ohm, ended up measuring them myself in the store before taking them. need them in every plug you remove
