Buying a Clio to eat up motorway miles - 172 LPG vs DCi

  Rover 200 Vi
Interesting that some owners are claiming 40+mpg. The book says 34 (I think) and from experience you never get close to this unless you are cruising at a steady speed all day with no traffic.

My Rover's book claims 37 mpg, which is possible but in reality is more like 32-36 when you factor in town driving, traffic and the occasional blast off the traffic lights. Once cruised to Oxford (from Lancaster) at 50-60 all the way and managed a whopping 46 mpg but that was driving like a vicar!

Still think LPG is worth it (if you find a converted one) as 40 mpg could easily become 65-70. Worked out I would save about £1000 per year on fuel changing from my 37 mpg Rover to a 65 mpg Clio DCi. Would also save £200 on tax. Can't beat the feeling though of a revvy petrol instead of a no-revs diesel!
