Calling all PhQuick owners

  Evo VI Tommi Makinen
Just wanted to know if anyone else with a MK1 172 was having the same issues as me this time of year.
My front fogs are all steamed up with condensation in them. Is this a usual thing which can be rectified. Ive dried one out with a hair dryer and allowed it to cool, put it back on the car and the next day has condensation in it again?

Any ideas?

ive not had this problem fella, but the best thing to do is take them out, dry them out again, and seal them at the back, with black electricians tape or something like that.

lol @ everyone calling them Ph-Quicks now... what have i started...

my fogs and fog-less mate, crystal clear :)

Thanks I'll give the insulating tape a try.

It's what certain Phase 1 172 owners have rather humorously decided to moniker their car.

Yet another typical moronic comment from a PH-Slow owner ;) :sleepy:

Mk2 172 = PH-Limp home mode LMAO

PMSL!! I'm running out of fingers to count on here!! How many more bites!! Inferiority complex? ;)

So are you now trying to tell me that Ph1's are more reliable now too!! LOL!!

No I didn't. I said if YOUR ph1 was faster than MY ph2 I'd bare my arse in Woolworths window.

Seeing as my car is modified and yours is (was) off the road I figured I was safe!! :approve:

Lol you guys love your banter. Thanks for the 1 piece of advice on my problem.

I can't believe you are all arguing about the same car with the exception of a few asethetics, different gear ratios, cable / electronic throttle.

They are virtually the same car except the Phase 1 is lighter and quicker than the Mk2 (AS STANDARD)

Letteth the flood gates open (/me joins in the banter)

and the steel bonnet + free knocking suspension and single colour embroidered seat logo plus that dire dire electronic throttle!

Ph1 suspension knocks and bangs just as much as ph2... ask iPap..

The FBW throttle is fine. Have you ever driven one?

At least my throttle cable's never snapped.....;)

knew you'd bite back in the end heh heh !

Q1 - far far less Ph1 suffer this problem..
Q2 - yes thanks ..........
Q3 - not many do!

I can't say I've ever given the throttle that much thought. I really don't see it as an issue. And I've only ever read about the 172 having a razor sharp throttle - No mention anywhere else except here abou the fly by wire system being so bad. I've driven a ph1 172 and never noticed a difference. Maybe all with all the track driving you guys do it makes all the difference ;)

I guess a direct link to the throttle is ultimately better, but cables stretch, go slack and break (there have been about four threads on here about threading a new cable!!).

You might also find this interesting....

I'm not getting into another 'better than' thread.

I only posted in here to pull some legs about 'PhQuick' (and got a few biters too) but now i'm geniunely intrigued as to why every ph1 owner is convinced that the FBW is so bad, and I've not had one problem with it?

I've driven all variants around circuits and the fly by wire feels no different to that of a bumper car.

  VaVa
Thanks for that.

Just wondered why there's no mention in any road/track test i've ever watched or read. Perhaps your just such a good driver.

it is generally more expensive when it goes wrong, as agreed by yourself there is generally a delay somewhere in the throttle position yours i beleive happens to be at idle?

Throttles cables are generally reputed to give the driver more 'feel' for the mechanical control of the position of the throttle itself. To achieve this 'feel for throttle' though you need to be dedicated to the car and have ultra thin soled shoes on so that all the feedback comes through the pedal box. A good acquainted driver should be able to 'feel' the position of the mechanical place of the throttle of his / her car. In the same way that he /she knows when the pads are just skimming the discs when applying braking pressure.

FBW are just as reliable (if not more) but the general concensus is that throttle cables are more driver feedback related. However they wont be around forever and FBW is def here to stay!
