Can a 182 ABS-ring speedo drive be fitted to a 172 Cup?

I'm fed up of having no speedo in my Cup since a 182 'box was fitted, can I go down the route of making it pick up the speed from ABS rings?

If so, does the speedometer work on the same inputs or will I need a speedo from a 182?

no, as your cup has no abs...

on the cars with abs it uses the abs computer to send a speed pulse to the clock.. the only way you could get round that is fit the entire abs setup inc the computer all the wiring 4 sensors the lot...

i see what you want to do,, but you wont be able to get it to work as you wont be able to produce the same sort of pulse as it would expect to see from the abs or the gearbox speed sensor..

if its already been fitted its a bit late now.. but i assume you went for the 182 box for the better internals? bolted diff etc?

its probably possible to build the 182 box in to a 172 cup casing to keep the speedo drive

only other option is a aftermarket speedo

Ah, OK, doesn't sound like a viable option then. Guess I'll just have to invest in another Origin b2.

Reason I had a 182 'box fitted was that it was available from a trusted member on here right when I needed a new one, and it was a good price. Wish I'd held out for a 172 one now though.

Doesnt it affect the engine running/rev limit not having a speedo signal?

Nope. The only thing that's gone t*ts up since I lost it is no trip computer/mileometer, and the intelligent wipers are no longer intelligent as they can never tell when you've come to a standstill.
