put this up in engine section cos its to do with the engine. basically heres the original thread http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=268023 where i had the problem. we have since found out the problem....above the ecu there is a metal block which is an anti - tampering device which covers the plug. this metal block was slightly loose and has rubbed through some wires connecting to the ecu, making the car think there is an electronic fault to do with the throttle angle, and it has also turned on the toxic emissions warning light. has this happened to anyone before and is it an easy fix? my dads mate has put some silicon grease on the plug and sometimes it will not start due to the plug, but after some moving of the plug it works. and now i'm on the lookout for a new plug.

Takes about 1.5 hours to change it.
Done loads of them for the very fault you mention.

Welcome to clio world and the great ecu problem!
I'm trying to get someone who'll do an ecu and wiring loom as I'm getting elec faults and o2 sensor fault and its down to the conectors under the block.
My local stealer want about £150 for loom and £400 for ecu!!
I'll let you know if I get any more info.

P.s some people have had some sucess just isollating the worn wires and re covering them then putting a spacer into the ecu box to stop wear. (cheap and may work)

MIKE! whats the price of ecu from you magneti marelli 5NR

we've removed the box. sometimes when i start the car i have to jiggle the plug around a bit and then it works fine. do you know if there is any way to fix this?

like i said above we've put silicon grease on the plug, which i'm going to top up tomorrow. i'm going to try and get a new plug, don't want to get a whole loom just to cut off a little bit.

its at the stealers now. getting a new wiring loom fitted, with labour and diagnosis costs plus vat all in for £295. a bit steep, but not that bad, plus i get it back tomorrow.

Just so you know I was quoted £600 + from my local Renault stealer for the same work.

They did offer me a discount which brought it down by 20%

Still looking on the bright side. If it had been cheaper, I may not have managed to swing trading up to the 182 past the other half.

bloody hell! thats made me happier then! i could've got it done cheaper by getting a second hand loom and fitting it myself thanks to my dad's work mates but that could take a week or so till i got the loom so thought i may as well spend the money.
