Cant bolt the ball joint back on .. any tips?

Any tips on how to get this back on?

iv placed a jack underneath it with some wood and its tight against the hub, but when i place the nut onit, it literally just spins, so in terms the bolt just doesnt hold atall, (the steering arm ball joint)

there must be a easier way to do this, as its the only thing holding me back now

Track rod end...

Jack the bottom of it higher, it will eventually stop spinning when you put enough force up on it. They should not spin anyway, its usually a sign its worn...is it new?

Hacksaw/grinder to get a slot across the top of it and a bloody large flathead screwdriver usually works for me, either that or a carefully place set of vice grips around the bolt..

I have literally jacked it to the point you cant and it just keeps spinning, the other side bolted no problem, might be a good thing to replace it,

Do i have to replace the whole track rod end, as it looks like it screw to join the steering rack

End just unscrews off the steering racks arm. Not expensive, can be had for under a tenner from factors if you know of any.

Make a note of where the old one is fitted upto (how many threads on it is) before you remove it, so you can get the new one in the same place. If you dont you'l have to get the tracking checked, but I'd probably do it to be sure anyway!

make sure the pin and the taper in the hub are clean as well. worst comes to the worst, use a non nylock nut and threadlock it on, or a k-nut

New ones will spin as its a ball joint and nothings stops them from they'll just be tighter than older ones due to wear or rather lack of, most of the better ones have a socket to accept an allen key in the centre of the threaded section. Otherwise jack a bit more (but not mad) and try to get it to bite on the taper, the nylon section on the new nut will be whats making it turn.
