Cat Cams and a live map

  Fiesta ST-3
Hi Lads my car is in the finishing stages of having a 172 engine fitted and the garage that is doing it also does matched inlets, has a rr and is a dealer for cat cams.

Now because i have a brand new cam belt and kit i was thinking of upgrading the cams, whilst im at it to save on costs later down the line when i want them, and also go for some matched inlets and then have a live map from his RR facility with a full cat back system too which i have.

My question is what gains in BHP and torque have previous people who have done this seen. I know it depends on the cams but any suggestions on an average all round set that wont make it idle like a b**ch..

round about 185bhp if your lucky on a 172. Maybe a little less tbf, you would really want a 182 manifold as well.

421s or 428s I think people go for. Yes that would be at the fly. I dont know on price. Maybe near the £800 mark excl fitting. I dont know its a guess.

Impressive figures mate, how much would you say it cost you all in all minus the stealth system?

Also lads will the same cams fit a phase 1 and phase 2 172? And even 182 at that? Or different for each?

+1 on the Pipers on a N/A set up. Theres nothing there with the CC 428's till 4k rpm. Loose a massive chunk of low down torque too.

I made 183bhp with 428's. I think with a live map i'd gain maybe a couple horses.
Tbh though the car drives and goes great the way it is.

Andy, the low down on yours was totally different to what had been seen with other 428's. Thats not a normal pattern for them although i have to admit your pipers seemed to do the trick!

Its a strange one Paul. Compressions fine, timings spot on and theres no signs of a HG prob. That 5k kick thing has ironed out a bit also. Not sure if that could be due to the new lifters bedding in.

Can the cams be fitted the wrong side ie inlet cam where the exhaust cam should be visa versa ?

Just looked at your graph again, it's very very down compared to one i did the other day even on 95 octane with less advance. It's possible that VVT is stuck or similar but 100% there's a HW problem.

It needs lots of logs to see WTF is going on as the top end is totally fine

Iv got a spare VVT solenoid thing kicking about. Might be worth a swap over.

Still think that missfire was a bit strange after they fitted the cams. Funny how the plugs had been fine thousands of miles prior up to that point, then 30 miles later after having the cams fitted their screwed...hmmmm

a 428 car should be doing anywhere between 185-195bhp (depending on what else is done) with around 160lbs/ft

  Italian 3.2 V6
what if this was the spec?

-182 trophy
-Recomended cams
-decat (standard zorst and manifold)
-pannel filter
-custom map to suit all above

? 200bhp ?

..just interested.

fly wheel figures may not be so true of the story though lets face it depending on which rollers and the way its worked out from the wheels, before cams mine made 145 bhp at the wheels then after cams and the map it made 154bhp at the wheels on the same rollers, so a gain of 9bhp at the wheels was pretty good and very noticable on the road

@ wheels, fly, it makes no odds. All depends on the rollers and how their set up. Just see it as a rough guide

My wheel measured figure on 1 set of rollers was way higher than a fly wheel figure result a few months later on another!

flol how the fcuk??? i know there is differences in rollers but that just takes the pi$$. what was the figures and the places? theres no point even taking it as a rough guide if the differences in results from those rollers was that big
