Changing 172 Cup to coilovers?

  Black R27 #443
I am thinking of changing my Clio 172 Cup suspension for coilovers. I do not want to ruin the cars handling by doing it.

So I guess my questions are:

1. Has anyone had any experience changing the 172 cup suspension, how did it affect the handling / general ride.

2. Which kit did you use / where did you get it from?

Do a search mate. Many people have been down this route berore you.

Common makes include Leda, H&R, Bilstein. Each have their own merits.

I have had the pleasure of a ride in GDI's demo car and there coilover setup works very well. I fact I think I will go on record and say the best I've ever been in!!

When Andy was going round corners it felt as though we were going to topple over, but we didn't. Hmmm.....I wonder what my bank balence is like???

You need to factor in £80 for full laser/IR tracking adjustments and you'll need them ideally geo'd aswell if you want it done properly and preferably corner weighed if you've money to burn.

My FK Konigsport were a decent enough ride, although crashy over some poorer quality road surfaces. Also had some scrubbing with 4/5 up, but to be expected because I had it fairly slammed.

Id go for H&R's for road useage, and get them set-up properly.

Expect to pay a grand for the coils and a decent set-up. Wont ride much harder than standard, and will much improve the handling.

You wont need corner weighting.

No he won't need it, but if he's getting it setup properly then that's the way to go. I just stuck with having them IR'd and geo'd. Cost me about £300 IIRC from Northampton Motorsport.

Why? As soon as you carry a passenger/ eat too much at christmas all that hard work is undone.

Agree that its worth spending money on set-up though.

For track purposes it is purposeful. Sure on the road and normal driving you're not going to notice anything, but if theres an option for £50 of having it weighted correctly then I'd have done it too.

But as said it's not going to make a fat lot of difference if he's never doing track work, providing he has everthing jacked and measured perfectly when he has his coils fitted.

Thanks for all the info, I may go ahead and do it now. I'll let you know how I get on with them. Where's the best place to get H&R's from? I will probalbly fit them myself and then get them set up.
