Cheery Bomb exhaust

Hiya just bought a cherry bomb exhaust of my mate for a fiver an wanted to get it fitted to me mk1, just wondered 2 things
1) is it illegal to have a cherry bomb fitted because the lad who sold it to me had it on his corsa an his dad is a traffic cop an
2) How much would it cost roughly to be fitted or is it easy enough to do meself?? cheers for any help!
