Chip's Tesco value cup project

Car  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Decided to get a trackday ph2 for a bit as bits are easier to find like bumpers etc than for a mk1 or a ph1.

logical choice seemed to be a Tesco value cup as they are common as muck, and this one came with a cage already in it so one less job to do.

Picking up tomorrow. It's only a shell at this stage as everything else been sold off of it. But here's a pic of when it was in one piece recently.

not sure yet what will happen with it. Will be either 197 engine and box or a Megane 225 engine and box.

progress will be slow. Dullest thread ever. Lol.

Loads of cup owners going to love the Tesco Value.

If this is going to be a track slut, the Ph.1 could become a bit more special? Nova kinda special? I know you haven't got anywhere near the time or inclination to do it but I'm going to tease you anyway.

Will subscribe to this. Progress might be slow but it'll be nice to see decent worthwhile mods getting done.

Makes a change from a lot of the "track spec" cars that get a full respray, detailed to death every weekend and never see a track.

How easy is the 197 engine conversion? I'm surprised I don't see more people doing it ( perhaps I answered my own question there ).

Oh right lol, if it's a pain in the arse I suppose it'd be silly not to go down the meg route for the same amount of hassle really.

Meg or 197 is same work yeah.

I like to have at least one n/a and one turbo track car though. So planning one of each.

Good project.

Suppose the benefit of it being a shell, is mechanically it can become anything :)

The downside, at the moment you can only sit in it and make brum noises.

full on 197 conversion so the 197/200 vvt etc?

always wished I could have the engine/delivery of my 200 in the shell of a 172/182 and if its pretty easy I would be up for building one!

Not decided yet on the vvt. Trouble with the more variable setup is it moving further limits cam choice.

Has someone keyed the bonnet and whats happening with the bumper alignment under the headlights /grill? Ditch the roof scoop?

The bonnet has "I [heart] U, sorry" written in the dust by the previous owner.
Bumper isn't fitted. There is no slam panel. It's just lobbed on to keep it off the ground. No point refitting it properly and bolting it all up before it's got an engine as will all have to come out again.

Looks like a brilliant starting project!

Aerocatches, cage, plastic windows and tyres with what looks to be track rubber?

I really want to see a tesco value sticker on it lol.

Tyres were just some random wheels I lobbed on it to get it home. Same for suspension. It came with neither. Likewise the steering wheel which isn't staying either.

Sticker will have to get done.

Subscribed : Another one to add to the collection Chip , how many is that now ? Will you be at the Ace Cafe Monday - need a chat with you about something I recently bought :p
If you decide to rid of the roof scoop I'd be interested as I have poly windows going in at some point and I don't want to cook
