City Powdercoating again

These are 4 turinis off a car not much kop in terms of their initial condition.

The worst one

Got the 4 refurbed at City Powdercoaters in Brum. Dropped off on the Friday, picked up following Wednesday.

Made right choice on colour (in my opinion) and for £20 a wheel for the refurb...cheap as chips. :approve:

They look great, loads better than standard 182 wheels.

They were from a 1.2 which had been done as a 172Cup replica and I think had undeclared mods and an engine fire so was chopped into a scrap dealer (who knew nothing regarding Turinis!!!). To be fair...it was a pretty good replica as everything had been done including colour, spoiler and interior. It was just showing red paint under the mondial.

Telford mate. Think it was the place you went to with Paul after Cosford. Went to the garden centre next door and saw the colour so went for a venture. They are genuine Speedline 16" Turinis.

They are spot on for the price £80 to refurb the 4 wheels. The finish is cracking...I was dubious...but when I picked them up....well impressed...just had to sand and spray centre caps to get the right look (as wet paint and powder coating paints are different)...so bit of time and effort and really rejuvenated the motor (plus they're lighter in weight than the 182 wheels...which I found when I dropped 2 of them on my instep!!!)

One has dent...but wheel balanced.

Ah right. The thing is with City, and the pictures that you've posted up, that they look good from a distance but as soon as you get up close its not very tidy. Now I had a set of wheels refurbished/powder coated by the Wheel Specialist in Manchester last year and they were fantastic. However It did cost nearly 3 times the price.

They've had differing reviews. Some good, some bad. When you consider how fucked the originals were...then how they are now, they're 1000% better.

Obviously if you pay several times the price...you will expect the world. But they seem to stack them high and do a shed load to keep prices down. I know that there are better out there. A place in Telford would have done them for £40 a piece and then another £10 per centre cap...so for that price I would have expected the world...

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. For the price they are spot on. If you're looking for perfect wheels, you can't expect to get that there.

The state they went in, I'm surprised they didn't charge you more anyway! Looking good now Don

My friend just picked up his 350z wheels from City Powdercoaters and theyve done a great job. He also got £20 off as they closed the day he was due to collect. Oh and it's best just to turn up with your wheels, they're terrible at answering the phone!

I'm impressed Don, I didn't know how well they would do the job as when mine went in they were literally mint, but that's a bargain for £80!

They cant do centres...you will need to get colour matched...that is why I got Turinis done as centres as so small.

You can't powder coat plastic....

Powdercoating process is much different to spraying and requires heat - something that the plastic cannot go through without melting/warping.

They have to bake powdercoat on...if they put plastic through that heat...it would melt. Also, I dont think that you can electro charge plastic which is what gets powdercoat to stick.

You can electro charge if you copper paint it first or similar, thats how people chrome plastic.

They charge £20 per wheel for shotblast, refurb and powdercoat. So long as you choose one of their standard colours its £20...if you want something custom it will be more expensive. Just bear in mind though that they are s**t at answering phone...I think white and anthracite will be standard colours as Tony H had one done in white for £20.

Its £5 to remove and £5 to refit and balance per wheel. I got it done elsewhere.

Sounds like the only pain is going to be that its a 300 mile round trip, so im going to be properly hacked off if I drive that far to drop 20 wheels off and then cant get hold of them.

I was advising about phones as it was my only bugbear with them. You will get through, you just need to try at it a fair few times. Its right by the Bull Ring in Birmingham so you cant really go wrong. I would bell them just to make sure you get what you want.
