Cleaning stuff i need to get?

Just got my gleaming black 182. Not blessed with any knowledge of cleaning cars other than a jet wash and then some clour magic lol. What stuff should i get. bearing in mind that i dont want spend loads but want keep it looking nice obviously.

Aim for perfection, best way to get that is look at this thread of Rich's and you won't go far wrong. Details of products are a few pages through too.

In addition to that thread you will need to prep the paintwork first.

Wash, clay and polish

Black Gold shows every mark, before waxing a decent polish is a must.

Working by hand is hard work, I had limited results with Meguiars Scratch X. A machine polish is the most effective route on Black.

Follow that up with Autoglym Super Resin or Klasse All In One and Jeffs Werstatt Acrylic Jett Sealant and a nice carnuba wax.

not sounding dumb but clay??? isnt that the stuff that morph was made from. autoglym stuff ive heard of. wheres best place get that from. they sell it at halfrauds but is it overpriced there

Wah: Duragloss Wash, Sonax Gloss Shampoo, Chemical Guys Wash'n'wax or Meguiars Shampoo Plus for bulk use

Drying: Sonus Der Wunder Towels or Pakshak Ultra Soft Drying Towels

Wheels: Wash , clean with AG Engine and Machine Cleaner or Meguiars All Purpose Cleaner, Polish with AG Super Resin, Seal with AG EGP

Tyres: Poorboys Bold and Bright or Blackfire Long Lasting Tyre Gel.

Plastics - Textured Autoglym Bumper Care Gel, Smooth 1Z Vinyl Care

Bodywork:

Clay - Meguiars Quick Clay or Sonus Gren Clay

Swirl Removal - Megauiars Scratch X

Polish - Autoglym Super Resin

Sealant - Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection

Wax - Swissvax Onyx

Pretty comprehensive advice there. Rich do you recommend SSR 2.5 for first time PC users or is it easy to make mistakes with this?

SSR 2.5 should be fine on a PC for a beginner. Make sure you use the mildest combo's first to see if thay work.

You might be pushing it for delivery tommorow, but most of the online traders will probably be able to get it to you for friday.

Only real difference was the Jeffs AJT rather than EGP.

There is not one trader that does all the bits so you would need to do a few orders.

where about do you live? I get my auto glym stuff from a paint shop in walsall, the super resin is £30 for 5 ltrs which works out cheaper than halfords. They have got the full range and the stuff used by valeters, I used this and it was brilliant.

Rich, why would you use scratchx and then SRP?

SRP is very mild if you have any deeper defects that need correcting you need to use a more aggressive polish first.

If the paint is in good shape just use the SRP.

Every c**t seems to tell you to get every single product all at once.


Head over to cleanyourcar.co.uk and get a tub of meg's shampoo plus, a washmit (souns lambswool of the mf meguirs do), and some kind of wax. Tbh people will reccomend different waxes. try the dodo juice range if you want, Purple haze is good for black cars.

Then go to halfrauds and get some Autoglym Super resin polish. If you didnt get some wax, then try som extra gloss protection.


Once you start the habbit of cleaning your car, you wont stop. Build up the rest of the s**t when you decide you need more s**t.
