Clio 1.4RT Before and After May 96

well those figures aint that accurate coz standard i could do 0-60 in 11sec and top speed 120mph and thats in a 1.4RT 93

so it depends on the car really, but i dunno y it would be slower than the 96+

The one with 75bhp probably has more torque and easier revving engine or summit, figures are both very generous though, Ive had my 95 Clio timed at 10 seconds flat uphill by digi camera, not 100% accuarate but gives a rough guide. A lot of other owners get around 10 seconds, some on 9.

Theres no way youd ever get 9s in an RT. No way! Not without serious engine work.

Mines been chipped, induction kit, and straight through exhaust, and the most i can get is 100mph out of it, which is about right. Havent bothered with a 0 - 60 yet, dont think ill bother, dont wanna upset myself seeing how slow a car im really driving!!!

Dunno where the heck you got 120mph figure from???????? Were you going downhill bigtime or summut? When i topped mine out i was on a proper flat piece of road, otherwise im sure id have got more out of it downhill.

erm my RT would do an indicated 120 easy! thats with induction kit and straight through full system! i bet you dont have the standard wheels on and therefore struggle for top end speed. the P2 RTs had power steering so 5 BHP was lost there i believe, i had a P1 RT, my mate a P2, i had 17s he had 16s, i had a VERY heavy boot build, he had nothing but i would ALWAYS, without fail beat him. that was with the same engine mods. the P1 RTs rule!

wit back box and k&N IK i managed to get 10 flat! if u raced em side by side i bet there aint no difference!
hello pal, mind if u can tell me your RT is manufactured in which year? mine was manufactured in 1999, removed the cat convertor, diy k&n cold air intake, dump straight through muffler and lost the low end torque ... i dun think i can get a 10 flat though .... since then i had put back my stock muffler which gave me more punch in pick up ...

and by the way, is there anyone out there who can tell me if the clio williams engine block can be lumped into a RT?

Thanks

We worked out on my Mk1 Clio, that a Willy lump would be pretty much a straight swap as far as we could tell - well, weight thought so anyway.

1999 is Mk2, so it could be different.

i see .. then i suppose the clio cup lump would not fit as well?

I havnt got a clue about Mk2s.. hehe.

Id imagine so, but youd need a lot of other stuff for the conversion, namely suspension and brakes.

I know for a GTT conversion on a Mk1, you need fuel pump etc..

alex, i can get 110mph easy, but to be honest was thanx to a hill to boost me up to 120mph!

it all depends on the car coz my mate with the same 1.4RT ph1 as me we went out and tried both cars his does it in 15 secs (lol) and i got 10.2 secs

once i install my TV card ill post up the vid

Alex is yours a mk1 RT or one of the bug eyed ones?

On the straight I can hit 100mph with 15s but it starts to struggle then, 0-60 in 10 seconds can be hit quite easily, guy on RSC with a hillpowered 1.4RT lump which has around 130bhp I think but this has had extensive work, gas flowed, chipped and other stuff I cant remember!

how much does it cost for a conversation?
hello essex_lad, sorry i forgot to tell u i m from singapore .. it cost ard sgd$4000 for a turbo conversion ... that is about 1500 pounds ..

cheers

my clio RT can hit 130. It can also get to 60 in around the same time as an integra type r.

GTT conversion on a clio, you just use the clio fule pump.

hello paulrobo,

r u driving a ph1 clio? mind disclosing what have u done to your clio to match up with a typeR?

Phase one clio, one of the earliest on a 91 H plate. It has a few subtle mods like small wheels and higher back susspension. Plus i have long legs so can press the accelerator hard ;):D

Dont see the point in tuning the RT engine to 130bhp? Big waste of money in my opinion coz its an RT at the end of the day.

Mines a very early phII RT, big boot install, and on valver phII 15" rims.

Theoretically my speedo could be out by 10%, therefore actually can get up to 110, but i doubt my speedo could be out by that much.

As i said i went on a flat piece of by-pass late at night after work, and would not budge over 100. Maybe it couldve given another 5mph if id have held on for long enough.

How does the power steering sap 5bhp??????

Also i think phII RTs are better than phIs!!! They might be slightly quicker, but the interior is nicer, and we have better lights and a better grille!!!

well i know there only 1.4 but still interestin seeing how much people can get out of a 1.4! if u look on the tyre bible then it says with 195/50/15s on a RT when the speedo says

70mph = 74.3mph

makes a difference if theres a speed camera infront of u!

so 100mph = 106mph (give or take)

will higher back suspension actually do nething?

wots this bout jus using the fuel pump from the GTT?

Al

The standard fuel pump on an R5 is not in the tank, on the clio it is in the tank .Therefore you dont change the pump, just use the one from the clio.

Thats what i have done... Did i forget to mention that my RT has a GTT engine in it??
