Clio 172 Alternator

  Clio 172 Cup
Mine has recently gone taking out my TDC sensor (perhaps just coincidence) and original battery in the process, so time for a new one.

Are there any recommendations for a better replacement or will standard do? GSF do one marked as ">98 with aircon" for £124 that seems ideal - would that do the job?

Is it a pig to fit? As I quite fancy having a go, but don't want to get caught out with something way beyond my ability!

TIA :)

Thanks for the offer, but to be honest I'd be worried about that one going too given the age - reckon I'd be better off with a new one and a longer life-span.

GSF have said they don't do one alas, but have a quote of £118+VAT from AlternatorMart.co.uk.

However I spoke to my local Renault place and they said for my VIN there are around half a dozen different possibilities, so I'd need to extract and check the unit number first. They sell from between £120 to £140 so will likely pick up from them I think.

Standard is fine.

Bit of a pain might as well do the cambelt if your have the knowedge tools etc as well.

It's bumper off to get to the aux belt tensioner the easy way (tried it without and TBH it's just not worth the shortcut)

Wouldn't do the cambelt at home TBH if you're not confident with an alternator change

weird my alternator snapped under warrenty and the replacement cost them like 400 notes. also your battery may be ok once it gets some juice back in it, mine took a beating but it was ok.

Thanks for that, reckon I'll pop it into the local garage I'm sourcing the new alternator from then, had a look at the weekend and as you say its a right pig to get too!

Just spoke to my local dealer and they are asking £348.99 (presumably with VAT on top) for just the part!!!

Non OEM kit is coming out at around £200 tops so far...
