Clio 172 cup OEM+

Car  172 Cup
Been lusting over a Clio 172 cup for a while, and the opportunity arose in an unplanned manner!

My car got stolen a few weeks ago (a lovely 335d e91), so I needed a car to nip around in.....Cue this rushed purchase!

It needs a bit of work to bring back to it's former glory, but with 72k on the clock, and FSH I'm happy.

Here are current mods:

. PMS brace and mounts
. Sabelt steering wheel
. KTEC decat and stealth exhaust (with middle silencer)
. induction kit (lollllllzzzzzzz)
. Flocked dash

I have a list of mods and new parts I want to fit below:

. Genuine renault discs front and rear
. Brakes stripped and painted
. DS2500 pads front and rear
. New Genuine Renault shocks front and rear
. Cook sport springs
. Speedlines re-done in silver with NS2RS (and spare one for the boot)
. Standard stereo, airbox, tool kit for boot, gear box gaiter, and interior carpet.
. Some renaultsport interior mats.
. Front bumper painted, and a decent two stage polish.
. Polybushing all around (Previous owner says it's polybushed, however I'm not so sure having a look under the car)
. Engine mounts
. 182 Exhaust manifold/197 cams/RSTuner map later.

Thanks! I'm not hot enough on Renaults to know what's what yet, is there anything else that looks modified/missing?

The side strips look awful.

Does anyone know where the hose should run from the inlet manifold, next to the throttle body? Not sure why it's blanked off.

Looks a great base for a project that  Future plans returning a few things towards standard again sounds good too!

Not a fan of the flocked dash myself but only as I can't handle the feel of that stuff 😂

Thanks Steve, my intention is to keep it as standard as possible, but making little improvements over Renaults original offering.

Making it stiffer, louder and twitchy doesn't bother me (I used to own an r26.r and an Elise, so used to impractical cars!)

So did a bit a work on it tonight, dechavving, and removing brakes/cracking the suspension bolts so I can remove when my bits come.

Bulbs look a lot better now!

After jacking car up, I've noticed wheel arch trims are missing along with under tray, so some more bits to add to shopping list.

It looks like it's black series wishbone bushes! But then again aren't all Powerflex wishbone bushes black now?
IMG_6952.webp

It's usually red for road and black for track with the Powerflex I thought but not 100% on the wishbone ones

Coming on nicely, it's the little touches that add up

where are you based? I've got a standard airbox with what I think is a good filter but i can get it open and have a proper look. Would you be interested in a swap for the induction kit if youre close enough?

Rich, Derbyshire, but regularly visit Solihull.

Failing that I'll send you induction kit in post and you can fit it and send me back airbox?

I'm not too far from you to be honest, I'm in Stoke so it's just a trip down the A50. I'll get it opened up and find out what filter is in there for you

Don't worry about filter brother. I'll be buying a KTEC panel. It's in pieces at the mo, so if you want it, drive aross on Sunday and we'll swap.

Nice base tbh chap, feel free to pop over with the car if you want any assistance with things, I'm fairly well versed in clios overall :-)

Did a bit more today, finished removing all suspension, brakes (bar one disc!), and rear beam. So far, no naughty nuts/bolts so it's been easy to work on!

Fitted a proper blank on the inlet manifold as the old pipe and bolt looked horrible. Changed spark plugs too (Genuine renault ones).

My little pile of goodies is building too. Still waiting on an email from RPD, and I'll order more bits and bobs.

Looking good, look forward to seeing what you do on it, am loving my cup at the minute! You can't beat a delivery from RPD

Thanks, I'm just looking forward to getting it to a position where I'm happy with it. My dad's enjoying coming across and working on it too, so that's good. The more and more I'm digging into it, the more and more stuff I find out. I removed seats earlier, and they've just chopped the cables underneath, so will have to fix them too!

Just like Christmas Day!

Dropped calipers off at mates to assess how to paint/ refurb, removing tyres offf wheels shortly for refurb and semi slicks and just finishing my list of what other bits for the rebuild to buy from KTEC.

Hopefully meeting Simon who's breaking a cup at weekend to get some more bits to dechav also!

Solid start to a good project! Also big fan of the plate on the meg [emoji1303]

Bit of a mare, bought a 182 upper and Lower inlet....fitted them, and it idled like toss, circa 4K! Read a bit that the upper inlet doesn't fit around the breather nicely, so removed it temporarily.... I am going to get the upper inlet and throttle body sand blasted back to standard colour. Air box on though, along with yellow cap (PMS brace off while dicking around).

Rear wiper on now! Silly blank removed
IMG_6689.webp

Suspension on now. I've gone for cooksport springs, cup shocks, powerflex camber bolts and KTEC camber shims. Got Powerflex black series beam bushes and upper shock bushes too, to match the wishbone bushes.

My wheels are ready to be picked up too, and picked a set of R1R's for them too. I'm trying to avoid going down a full track route so no coilovers or hardcore tyres for now.

Nice work. Will look so much better with silver turinis back on it.

Torque tightening stuff today, and I change interior carpets for better nick ones! (No pictures though).

Bought some new wheel bolts all around, hate the locking ones, so ditched those

Cheers man, I've seen the wheels, they look mint, so excited. The same guy has done my brake calipers black too.

You gone coilies? I ummed and arred about going down that route....and might in the future. Depends if I want to track this a lot.

Think this pay day I might go mad at PMS and get a shifter and an ARB though....

I keep meaning to get some paint on my calipers, are you having them painted or powder coated? I have put Spax RSX coilovers on, I wasn't supposed to be as the cup shocks and springs were new all round just before i bought mine earlier this year but these things happen! I am still tweaking them at the minute but impressed so far. Just fitted the PMS shifter this weekend and it is great, probably best thing I have fitted so far, worth the money

Mine have just been sprayed mate, if they where sexy multi piston calipers, I'd have powder coated.

I've just bought a PMS shifter and an ARB........hoping to fit them, brakes, wheels and change oil on Saturday.

Having thoughts about exhaust system too. May just get rid, and buy an 182 manifold, decat link pipe, and a standard 172 exhaust.

Fitted calipers, brake lines, discs and pads today, then did a quick bleed with my dad....pedal feels fine at minute, but I'll bed pads in and gee if I need to re bleed with some pressure.

Fitted wheels and dropped it off stands, the extra degree of negative camber all around is very clear, and it isn't too low.

Next job is to:

. Tax and insure
. Bed pads in.
. Change oil and filter
. Remove paint off inlet and throttle body
. Fit ARB and gear linkage
. Swap my seats for better condition ones next week
. Swap my dash for a normal dash
. Fit bonnet and get front bumper painted.
