Clio 172 Engine & Gearbox Removal Wrexham North advice / Help

  clio 172
Ive started getting my Engine ready for removal bearing in mind i havent done it before and trying to follow guides on here to assist me.

Ive removed the majority of things rad, lights cross memeber alternator air con etc.

Havent removed driveshafts until i have bought an engine lift !

Disconnected and removed ecu, disconeccted the sensors from front of block, unplugged the white block connector in fuse box and removed the fuse box from the bay but just have the relays all connecet, can these be split from each other ?

Ideally i would like to get the wiring loom out of the engine bay but unsure what i need to do next as i cant see behind the back of the block to see where the loom goes too ?

I just have a wiring loom gathered ontop of gearbox which goes behind manifold so im unsure if i can actually disconnect all of the wiring loom and remove it from the engine bay ?

Going to look where i can buy an engine lift the cheapest, probably thinking ebay

any advice or help would be great

We left our loom in the engine bay. Some of the loom goes underneath the exhaust manifold. As far as I can remember it's only the starter motor connected around that area. I think we lifted the engine a little before undoing the loom here. Made things a little easier.

One other thing to look for. Make sure you have disconnected the pas line that runs over the top of the gearbox.

Yeah i was looking at that yesterday, thats why i was wondering about supporting the gearbox. do i have to remove the mount to disconnect the PAS line ?

Yeah i will do that once i have bought an engine lift, lift it up abit and bring it forward a little so i can see behind the block and disconnect.

thanks for the response, Never done it before so i'm learning !

Got the engine out today on my own. One of my mates had a crane so i borrowed that and managed to get it out on my own. :)

As said, it's rewarding to do jobs like this yourself.

Just think methodically and work through it bit by bit.

I always remove the loom completely, as it's a fiddly motherfucker and always gets on my nerves.

I dont fully remove it from the engine bay but just hang it over the passenger wing.

The secret with the 172 is that there are no short cuts...believe me i have tried and it takes longer ! I am always concerned by the angle it has to come out and back in at. When dropping it back in try and get the box as far under the chassis leg as possible then when its at proper level pull it back across.

i will start stripping it down on the stand this weekend and start cleaning the block and see if there any leaks to attend to. I think i will get the cambelt replaced too whilst its out to be on the safe side
