Clio 172 goes to an Autosolo

Apart from karting I've never done any competitive driving, until now. On Sunday I entered myself and my Clio in to an Autosolo at Heworth Metro station. Having never done an Autosolo before I had no idea how I would do. The day consisted of 2 tests, with 6 runs at each, and the best time from each was combined to give the overall time for the day. To prep the car I removed the spare wheel and rear seats, taped the handbrake button down and put some old tyres on. I also blew the back tyres up to 50psi and ran the fronts at 28psi. The car ran and handled like a dream, the back end coming round nicely on demand. I finished the day 4th overall (out of 15 competitors) and 1st Novice. I was chuffed.

Yes the council gave us the long stay car park for the day. Haven't found any videos of myself but here's a video of my friend in his MX5. It was in conjunction with road respect young driver of the year (2 young guys competing against each other) and organised by Whickham and District motor club, which I'm a member of.

I bet this was loads of fun! How well did the Clio seats hold you? I can imagine myself flying about all over the place.

It wasn't too bad actually, not something I noticed being a problem on the day anyway. It could definitely benefit from a smaller steering wheel and a LSD though!

Grest result. Autosolos are great fun and cheap way to give your car a wragging. Ive been doing them for a few years and had some good results in all 4 of my various clios.
