Clio 172 price

Is £2495 too steep for a Monaco blue 59000 mile car that's just had a cambelt done? I've seen one in a garage not far away and it is a really straight car. It's standard except a ktec stealth exhaust.

Who changed the cambelt? Did they do the full kit and Aux belt kit too? What about the dephaser?

What do you mean apparently??

Have you seen a proper invoice from a proper garage?

  53 Clio's & counting
Check who did the belt - the f4r engine is very sensitive to timing, and even Renault get it wrong, so you have to be very careful who you choose for belt changes. Alot of places will advertise a belt change, and will have literally changed the belt, without using any of the correct locking tools (if no locking tools used then the timing WILL be wrong) and it wont have been done properly.

A decent specialist will change the cambelt and tensioners and rollers, plus the auxiliary belt and tensioner (this is important as the aux tensioner can sieze up and throw the aux belt off - usually right into the cambelt, resulting in bent valves)

So this is why a belt change costs £450 + as it needs to be done properly.

Also, as Dan says, if the car has had crappy oil or has missed oil changes the dephaser could be knackered, which will add another £160+ to the bill.

So if the car is in good condition, will good history, redplaced consumables such as suspension and brake items and a documented full belt kit change from a renowned garage who has used the correct tools and know what they are doing, then yes it can be worth that easily.

But if not, you can factor in another £450 on a belt change (Or head to Dan @ SJM who has a special on with belts at £370)

  Maybe a 172 Cup..
Too steep IMO. I'd prefer to buy a higher milage 182, with less owners and better history. They crop up for that sort of money.

Depends what you want, I usually pay that little extra for cars when there minty and the right spec. I would personally part with that for a nice well maintained 172. Age doesn't affect the paintwork rust wise due to being galvanised so you can buy that older car and still have a nice example.

You would get that for £2400 at least I would think and maybe less depending how much meat is left on the bone for them to make money, be cheeky, Clio's are ten a penny and that type of car isn't exactly flying off the shelves due to big engine displacement (for a little car) and higher tax.

I'm not going for that one. The bloke is an arse. Basically I have £2000 to spend I'm after a ph2 172 with good history and not too many miles. I live in Cheshire. If anyone has one for sale or knows of one that a friend maybe selling can they let me know through here. I'm not travelling too far as I got shafted by someone recently where we had a sale agreed on a car pending inspection and I had a train ticket booked and paid for. He then text me the night before to say he had sold it. So I'd lost £40 on a train ticket I'd never used and that's why I refuse to travel all over the countryside looking at cars

My 172 is about to go up for sale, looking for about £2k. I am getting the front bumper resprayed prior to sale. It has 70k on it, and has been serviced every 6 months whilst i have owned it.

let me know if you are interested.

Yeah I will. Just need to get the new car sorted and get the bumper sorted out.

In the real world if we didnt de-value them ourselves, a good ph2 172 with all the belts done and good history should be worth around 3.5 - 4k imo for all the car you get.

There are far worse cars out there with the same price tag as these, it doesnt make sense to me.

Is this the one thats at ideal motor co?

I was going to pop down today and have a look at it but I decided to do a few bits and pieces at home, is it worth a look?

I spoke to him he said come and view it and make me an offer. So I went and viewed it and made him an offer and you'd swear I'd just called him fat. Basically the impression I get is make me an offer as long as its £2495 ill accept it.

Did you leave him your no. If so let him chase you and if he calls tell him you are going to look at others that are cheaper in the same spec .

Its been payday since your last thread about wanting one for £2000 surely you could stump up the extra £400 now.

Quick ring this bloke in Wigan! He's got one for sale!

Whats that supposed to mean? The one at £2495 if mint is worth that price, and it sounds like the guy is happy to hold onto it until he gets that price.

Well it's £500 and the tax runs out in a few weeks so there's another £120 ish. Plus a few bits and pieces which I always expect to do with a new car to make sure it's right. So really it could be nearly £700. I want a clio because they're cheap. Paying full whack for one defeats the object somewhat. I will find one but I've come to terms with the fact ill just wait. I'm not just paying what someone wants. All these used car dealers bang on about how much money they're making. I'd rather buy one privately aswell, as you know what sort of person has owned it
