Clio 172 rear disc change

Please can anyone tell me how to remove the rear discs from a 172 - I had a quick look and there is a large circlip but was not sure whether that was holding the disc on or whether it was something to do with the wheel bearing.

the circlip is for the wheel bearing

remove the massive centre nut (32mm from memory)

and the thing should just pull off

remove discs, take down to local garage, get them to press out old ones, press in new ones

or just buy the complete new discs and bearings ready assembled

Tks for info on discs, does anyone know what torque for the nuts when you put them back on?

Sorry to post hijack, but I need to replace the rear brakes for the 182...

Was thinking performance rears to match the fronts. Ktec have a kit which is £200 delivered. Looking at the EBC disks and bearings in isolation they're much cheaper.

May be being thick, but about the ABS sensor ring ? Do the discs come with these?

Same brakes on the 182 and 172.
No need to upgrade the back they don't do anything anyway.
Stock disk are £140 I think and pads £40.
Not an issue the rings on the hub bit from memory only the Mk1's who have ABS rings

Bump..

I'm needing to chanhe my wheel bearings on the rear, I'm just wondering though.

As above, is it just the one big nut holding the whole disk/bearing on? I've got a whole new kit ready pressed top go on. Is it just a case of pulling it off and putting the new one on?

Wooft, good searching skills! Yeah, obviously the caliper has to be out the way but yes its just the large centre nut which iirc is actually 30mm, whip that off, tale the old disc off, put new disc on, put nut on FT

Can you tell me what size the hub nut is? 30 or 32mm?

All I should need then really is a socket set aye?

Also, is the hub nut a left hand thread?

I'm sure it's a 30mm but it takes seconds to check once the wheel is off. As for the thread, no I dont remember it being left handed. The hub nuts are nylocks and they are on properly tight so not an issue

Make sure you replace/retain the deflector washers which is sandwiched between the bearing and stub axle when changing the discs, it also goes on a certain direction (can't remember which way it goes now).

The hub nut that holds the rear disc on has to be tightened back up upon refitting with a torque wrench. 175nm is the torque setting you would set the wrench to.

Another thing, can you give me some infornmation on the ABS rings? Are they fitted to the disk itself or what?

The disks I've ordered say they are already fitted.

I had to belt the s**t out of my old discs with a huge hammer to get them off! so if they dont just pull off, grab your hammer!

They are mintex discs and pads with the bearings and abs rings already fitted and pressed tony. Just for normal road use so mintex should be fine, so I've read!

Yes. 30mm for the hub bolts. 17mm for the pad carrier. 175nm for the hub nut, 100nm for carrier bolts

Oh and don't forget to replace the spacer behind the disc in the same way it came off

Anyone know the teeth on the ABS rear ring- ive seen both 44 and 48?

Any links for cheap rear discs, with bearings and ABS rings for a Phase 1?

Eurocarparts seem bleeding pricey on this item......
