clio 172 started spluttering today

  Trafic 140dci
this morning went out in my car was fine, got out, got back in no more than 5 mins later, and it started spluttering, this is around 2k rpm mark and then 6k rpm, after a little while an engine warning light came on, went and saw my local mechanic he plugged it in and it came up with a knock sensor...

anyway he wiped the ecu, and after that the light on the dash had gone out, and it was still spluttering, its still doing it now, and i have no idea what it is...

any idea's would be appreciated

reason im asking here is my mechanic is busy untill next week, and i need the car for this weekend

thanks

just been and had a poke around under the bonnet (im no mechanic, but have a good idea what im doing!) checked air filter that was ok, but the 90 degree bend was full of oil as in picture, cleaned that, throttle body looked ok from what i can see, but i dont really know what im looking at with them, also checked the oil, that was low (but not below minimum) topped that up, took it for a drive and its still spluttering

heres what the bend looked like

occasion 1. i had a flat spot at 6k, changed the plugs, all good
occasion 2. it struggled alot and had a lot of trouble revving, changed lambda sensor, all good

that hose isn't too bad. but consider this, if there's oil marks in the hose, that oil will also be in other places within the air intake system, up until it enters the cylinder head and there's a few sensors on it's way. i can't think of what is where, on previous cars i've had there's been a sensor (MAP i think) in the hose and that can respond well to cleaning. consider pulling the sensors out of the inlet plenum and checking they're not caked in it.

CTS sensor is a prime suspect too.

Erasing the problem from the ECU will not solve the problem you do know that??

i never understand why people do that without correcting the addressed problem

thanks for both the replies, to be honest i went as far as i dared with the airfilter and bend, as im no expert so have no idea what im doing haha,

as long as he keeps a note of the fault code it doesn't matter if it's erased or not.

:S yes but the problem will still be there lol

and it will re log as you havent fixed the fault, so it will need to be erased again once fixed

agreed if the problem is persistent. i'm thinking back to when i bought my car and the emissions light was on. car ran fine, so i cleared the fault and it never came back. that's a good example of when you can just clear a fault :) funnily enough i never got an EML when my primary lambda sensor went up the creek

im not being funny about it :)

if you did the diagnotic and it said knock sensor then why havent you replaced the knock sensor??

its under the fuel rail cover and about 30-40 for a new sensor i think

its now with the mechanic, so fingers crossed its that, as that aint alot of money, worst part is.... it was only today my van went in for its 75k service and new brake pads so could of done without the car in there at the same time lol
