Clio 182 cutting out/fuel starvation?

  172 cup
My Mrs bought a 05 182 about 5 weeks ago.

All has been fine with it until this week.

She phoned me to say it had cut out on her and wouldn't start again.

My brother towed her home, checked it over and couldn't find any problems, but it still wouldn't start. He put a can of fuel in and it sarted first time!!

We've been giving her stick all week for running out of fuel, but she was adamant the fuel light had only just come on as it cut out.

I've driven it about 30 miles since and all was fine....Until last night!

I was driving, fuel gauge showed 1/8-1/4 tank of fuel, and computer 73 miles left, when it suddenly cut out. After coming to a stop it started again sraight away on the key.

I drove on and a couple of miles later it spluttered a bit for about 10 seconds.

I did another 20 miles after that, and it went fine!

I wondered if it could be dirt in the fuel tank? She's running it on 99 ron fuel

Any Ideas what it could be please?

Chances of there being contamination are slim as fuel today is very clean but it should be checked to be on the safe side as they don't have an inline fuel filter setup anymore... it's all in-tank as posted above. TBH it needs to be seen by someone as guessing or attempting to diagnose without seeing the vehicle will be pretty tricky with this one - It could be a simple sensor such as the CPS or something a little more sinister such as an electrical fault.

How many miles has the vehicle actually done? When the vehicle refuses to start, can you here the fuel pump prime for 3 seconds?

Fuel level indicator problems are also rare but I've seen a couple before on the Sports... It's a simple enough fix if its either a reconfiguration or sender unit at fault.

The car has done just under 45k.

I'm not sure if the fuel pump was priming, because the only time its stopped on me it started again straight away.

I've filled the tank with super unleaded and am going to drive it myself for a few days to see if there are any more problems.
