Clio 182 oil level sensor...

I turned the ignition on this afternoon, and before i turned it over the SERV light appeared along with it's mate... the LOW OIL readout flashing on the display.

I checked under the car to see if some scamp had pinched my sump plug... nope, that was still there, thank Christ. LOL

As the car was cold, i checked the level manually. I did it a few times, as you do.... it was about 2mm below MAX. :S

So i headed off to the garage to buy a top-up. I splashed a bit in to top it up to MAX and re-checked it. All seemed fine! Started it again... this time, no warnings at all!

I always check all the levels regularly, as well as tyres etc....and i always check the oil manually.

Has anyone else had this problem with the dodgy sensor? I hope it doesn't throw a wobbler again tbh, my dash looked like a fcuking Christmas tree! :dapprove:

Anyone?

No worries. Yeah, it confused me! The car is kept on level ground too!

My immediate thought was "fcuk! don't start it!" LOL

It's been fine since the top up though... weird as i only added a few splashes to bring it up to full MAX on the dipstick. :S

Aye, i bet the part is about eight quid... and about four hours labour to fit the b*stard. Cheers for that, Renault.

You'd be abit worried if Renault didnt...

- Take all your money
- Place those easy to replace, hard to get to parts
- Fool you into getting a new part

i had this after a long run and stopped to get to a service station for some lunch and then went to start up and got greeted with that, sometimes its the oil is high up in the sump (or so im told)

best checking manually anyway as it probably going to be pap read outs

The oil thing happened to me just after I'd had a new sump, sump gasket and oil put in at the dealer. Started it on the drive and the warning lights came on. F'in French piece of crap!

Fit it yourself, get a local garage 2 do it or someone you know who is good with cars.

Renault stealers were going to charge me £300 labour + £120 parts to fit both bottom suspension arms and they said they needed the car for a whole day.
I got them fitted myself for £150 parts and labour, it took about 2 hours which included a bolt getting stuck, stripped then replaced, without that it would have took about 1 hour, and Renault say 8 hours? They sould be shot!

Oops! Just read its all done, nice one.

The sensors aren't to be trusted anyway tbh. If the dipstick says all is fine then all is fine.

If the sensor needs to be changed its and easy job anyway, only screws into the front of the block at the bottom, easy to get to with the fuel rail guard off.

does everyone run oil at max on the dipstick?

I've always run all my engines exactly half way up the dip stick.

My car did it the other night, wasn't at all impressed to be checking my dipstick at 1 in the morning to find the sensor was playing silly buggers!

Mine did this once, checked it on the dipstick and it was fine. Drove to work ignoring it and its never come back since!

Usually if it's parked on an angle and you turn it on it flashes up as all the oil would go to one side of the sump
