  An old banger!

whats the general waiting list on these at the moment?

what sort of finance packages can be done with the car? im thinking if im gonna spend £9000-£9500 on a used cup/172 i might be just as better off buying from new!?!?

I am currently at 9 weeks and I think its touch and go as to whether I get it before the MOT runs out on the banger I am currently driving in mid Oct...

You can get a new 182 for £12500 as stated elsewhere. Slap down £2500 and get a 10k loan (unless you have more than 2500 saved up already). PCPs are not as good an interest rate as a straight loan but easier to obtain. Dont pay more than 9.9% on a PCP.

Eves. Youll lose more on depreciation instantly.

With quite a few nice cups that are only 6 months old going for 9-10k (mine especially !!)

whats the point in spending 3k+ more on a new 182 ?. Its pointless. There is marginal difference in looks and performance. I drove them back to back.

Jese. You could keep your williams and the cup for the price of a 182 !

This was my thinking when I got rid of the elise to get a hot hatch.

You have to ask yourself why there are quite a few 6 month old Cups up on the market....owners not satisifed? Truth is as soon as the 182 was released they couldnt flog their motors fast enough.

You also have to ask whether you want a car that has an almost identical interior to the 1.2 Dynamique.

I chose to spend the extra 3k and get the extra 6 months warranty (well worth it as this is Renault quality we are gambling against), and all the extra spec equipment you get with the 182.

Plus take a read through the driving tales folder. These are the sort of people who would have been driving the Cup for six months to a year before you got lumbered with it. Sobering thought and has to put you off buying a second hand sporty car for life.

Most the Cups at dealers are delivery mileage Pre registered cars that Renault have had in storage for a few months.

Toypup...I dont think there is anything to be not satisfied with the Cup in comparison to other performance FWD cars. Its right up there.

I guess its each to their own but I think most of the owners of the late 172s who sell up for 182s are kind of image grabbing - like the latest pair of trainers ! im not tarring everyone like that but it makes no sense to me.

As for 2nd hand cars - your always going to get this - thats why some people buy new all the time - but cars like the cup are designed to be driven hard and as long as they are maintained and serviced well then I see no problem.

hmmm cos youve probably ragged it to f**k so better buy new and then you know what the history is second hand cars of these calibre are a bad idea

sargeantinio... please define what ragged to f**k means ??!

You buy a car dependent on condition. If it checks out fine and service history is ok then why not? Is the last owner going to drive it any harder than you would ? Are these cars not bought by people who drive fast? And wouldnt warranty cover any bits that have broke?

If everyone thought like that then when the time came to sell your 182 came about you wouldnt be able to sell it !

From that comment I know you havent driven either cars hard or at all! The difference in very noticable. But that was just one reason I upgraded from an 03 172 to a new 182. Oh, and I got a brand new 182 for £10.800 with metallic paint, and both Cup packs from Renault Birmingham. :D

As for the comment about these cars getting ragged. That would concern me also. I know mine always get driven hard, quarter miled, tracked etc but its correctly serviced and always fully warmed up. I try and consider causing minimal wear to the car in everything I do.

However I know of other members who pull off there drives and take it straight to the red line. Id not want a car thats had that sort of treatment.

Well fair play to you then.

Re-reading my comments I can see that it might get a few 182 owners backs up ! sorry chaps !

I suppose 0% is great for some people but I couldnt find a 182 for under 12.5k with the cup package and when I did drive them back to back there was honestly nothing in it.

That said - my 172 only had 900 miles on it and I didnt want to be bouncing it off the limiter. I was guessing by the pick up and mid range but thats probably not the best way to look at it seeing as a lot of power is delivered after 5k.

TBH though, I wouldnt want any more power through the front wheels until the suspension was made better. It copes with what it has but only just.

All IMHO of course;)

FWD just isnt for me though.

If youve only covered 900 miles in the 172 you wont have had chance to get to grips with that properly yet. Id covered 22500 miles in just over 12 months in mine, then I drove TomClio182s 182 and couldnt really notice any difference. But since swapping to the 182 Ive had the chance to drive mine as hard as I used to drive the 172 and with the Cup suspension it handles massively better than the standard 172.

The power delivery is certainly improved and the 182 pulls much harder mid range, but then whos to say my 172 wasnt a great example! Others Id driven were better. LOL One of the nicest things about the 182 is when you shift up a gear when giving it some beans you go straight into the power again, where as the 172 always had a lull. This this was noticable when I did the 0 - 60 at Donny South. Ill be having another go next weekend at Trax, then Spa and the Ring next month. :D
