Clio 182 - revving at 2.5-3k whilst turned on

Recently when turning the ignition on the car has started revving like mad up to between 2.5-3k revs without touching anything. I was advised by a mate it was the throttle housing so we took the airbox out and gave the throttle housing a wash out with wd40 but it had no effect. Any other ideas to what the problem could be?

Where could this be coming from?

Most likely to be the inlet manifold. Remove and refit, cleaning all the mating surfaces/replace dead gaskets.

Cheers for your help with give this a go. If this isn't the case is there any sensors that could be causing this problem?

have you had it off recently, such as changed plugs or leads?
