Snetterton 12th Oct
After the Bedford disaster I was fairly apprehensive above this one TBH. Being 2 miles around the corner was nice. The Clio was unloaded and I completed a few final checks and off we set on the siting laps with no issues. The track was slippy with overnight dew/rain. The first couple of sessions were short as I wanted to make sure everything was alright. I lost a bit of the brake duct but no big problems.
The track dried out a bit and the car was still working so the pace kept coming until I noticed the ABS light was on. Back to the pits and luckily I’d brought my laptop with RS Tuner on it which said the front right sensor was reading incorrectly. Initially I couldn’t reset it so I spent time taking it all apart and checking the connections. I managed to reset it then but it was lunch so filled the car up with another 20 litres of fuel.
Then what happed was the best prolonged hours of driving I’ve ever had in the car!
Lunch done and out I went and pretty much kept going and going and going only stopping for fuel and the odd check. The car was faultless to the point I had to then come in to fill up after burning through the 20 litres of fuel I put in at lunch!
Not only did the car work it was the best it’s ever been. The diff is a game changer. The shorter 5th gear is ideal. The engines pulling stronger than ever thanks to the port & polish on the inlet and the remap. The EPAS works with no faults (I do have it turned down a lot on track). The car feels tighter than ever having had the rear beam stiffened.
I didn’t swap over to the slicks as there was rain forecast from 4pm onwards and tbh the AR1s were working well enough. The rain did come and at that point I knocked it on the head as I still had to get home and then get the van back to the depo.
The ABS light did come back on. Cycling the power fixed it. Looking at the front wheels at the end of the day it looks like my drivers side CV joint cover has failed. I think the oil’s on the sensor giving a miss reading as the sensor has been replaced since I’ve had the car so should be ok.
So apart from a CV joint cover I have a car that’s filthy and wet but ultimately ready to go again and is now at home safe and sound. At the moment I couldn’t ask for more and after a long hard 18 months I’m in a happy place and looking forward to the next outing 😁
