Clio 182 Trophy

Had a random/multiple misfire on my 182 trophy and this was finally diagnosed as a broken valve spring. Has anyone had or heard of this issue previously as I have never personally heard of such issues..! Ive read loads of threads relating to misfires with this car and 99.9% of these threads pointed to the coil pack or injectors and most said that changing one of these components ended up sorting the problem. Not this time unfortunately, so those of you who are having the same problems might want to get a compression test done before guessing its either the coil pack or injectors at fault as this was a mistake I made.
If anyone has heard of valve springs breaking then it would be great to hear from you to get an insight to the cause of such issue, or to find out if it more common than I expect. I know that valves can break in high revving engines or engines that are thrashed a lot, but the car does not get driven hard at all and is not modified so there is no extra power present. The only possibility I can think of was the fact that it was extremely cold the day the problem surfaced, but anyway can anyone comment?
