CLIo 182 vs Autoexpress - Not good news

The clio 182 performed it would seem only averagly and came behind competition such as the type R and Cooper S (in works guise)

It came 18 iirc out of 25 but beat the megane 225 which came 24th

The cooper S was said to pull away easily from the clio on the track



Cant believe this personally but they were concnetarting on the driving experience ratrher than just build quality!

imo auto express is totally mis leading they tend to favour certain manufacturers over others.

Almost as if they are being bribed in some way!

This is the first review I have heard of where the 182 doesnt come top of the pile.

has anyone else had the same experience?

lol also had me mate going on about that mag saying my minis better than your clio lol.

come on the cooper s hasnt beat it in one other test and it aint going to.

Bmw have just uped the power of the cooper s by 7bhp as well because they was pissed of that everything else was beating it. and everything else is still beating it lol

Autoexpress does seem to favour who ever gives them the best bribe.

maybe they should just look @ the topgear power lap times to see what car is the better.

Cooper s - opps it was too slow. didnt make the lowest possible time to be on the board. nor did the s works lol

And the CTR is a class of car above, to even be compared with it is praise for the Clio.

apart from "who cares" IMHO .... evo and autoexpress are from the same publisher and share the same website ... go figure. it amazes me that these discussions go on so long just as these arguments spread across from here to mini2 honda revs etc there are bound to be differing opinions in magazines. as with anything try it yourself, if you like it buy it !!

Now Now the Works Cooper-S isnt a production car. Its an upgrade option. Just think if the 182 had such a thing

They raved about the 106 GTi and the VTS, said driving wise they were superb and reckoned only the Caterham strung together a series of corners better than the 106!!!

Think the larger/wider tyres on the VTS help the lap time, I know my GTi was better when I ditched the 185/55 14s and went to 195/45 15s like the Saxo.

Was it Autoexpress who did a 182 vs Cooper S article a month or two ago as well? I seem to recall them preferring the Cooper there for things like ownership experience and one or two other strange comments. So they are hardly likely to prefer it over a Works if thats the case.

the mini would have to be fan bleeding tastic to prise the cup keys out of my hands. The civic would be tempting but im more or a country lane person where as the civic would be more for street racing. all personal preferance. Ive solved all the problems in my cup rattles engine noise. I fitted a illegally loud exhaust!!!

Well, lets face it, not everyone will like the Clio. Im happy with my 172 so I couldnt give a flying f*ck what anyone else thinks, Im the one driving it after all.

problem with the clio is that its always done well in reviews and its now got itself into a position where some people will want to shoot it down, its a very british thing to knock something thats popular and sucessful, some of the journalists thrive on writing contentious dribble with a view of winding people up, they get a kick out of getting a reaction

Thought the topgear review by clarkson was a crock of sh*t as well

At the end of the day people have different opinions on everything. Some people think Clios are great, and some sh*t. Id rather be a bit diffrent and have a limited edition car. How boring would it be if we all drove the same cars, and wore the same clothes etc etc etc and there would be no car mags with different opinions. Agreed?? Rant Over
