Been a while since i updated this

Had a successful track day at Castle Combe the other week, car felt great and a lot was learnt but there's a few changes I need to do in the suspension, definitely need stiffer springs coming into the new year.

Got some much needed tuition off of a friend of mine which helped me improve through out the day also.

My girlfriends first time out on track as well, brave enough to tackle combe for her first time driving the car, and on a live track! smashed it, and i'm sure she'll be joining me out on a couple more to learn the car also.

Been in talks with Fulcrum Motorsport recently, and I've decided to put a deposit down on a cage and get that done over winter. Also have a few other ideas of what i want to get done to make sure the car is safe and reliable (as much as you can get a French car to be anyway)

I had my license starter pack come through the other day also, so I have some revision to get done and my license to be sorted at the end of this year / the start of the new year ready for the season.
I will be entering Time Attack in the new year as my main series, as well as the odd Hot hacth series / Road series races by 750MC.

Hi friend ;)

Good times that was, glad to see you're pushing to get racing.
Anything I can do to help, just ask and you know I'll help where I can!

P.S Remember you can brake way later than you think!

Went to snetterton today, tried to get a final track day out the way

what a wet wet wet day that was, had a couple of spins; caused a small bit of damage to the side skirt but nothing bad

as the day went on the drier the track got, so that was good to be able to feel the cars potential again!
Apart from that, a pretty standard track day! No red flags, one yellow, couldn’t have been better

So after a long think recently, and with my mental health taking a large turn over the past two months.
time attack is being out on hold, I’ll be doing the odd single round entry, so I won’t be completely out of it, but not as I wanted too.
Having time attack lingering has been adding to the stress recently that I haven’t needed.
so it’s back to building the car to my specs and track days all year with the odd time attack entry.
Also needing a new car, and life coming into play a lot more as of late, everything started to have to take a bit more of a back burner.

the car build will continue as normal tho! 😄

Couple of jobs completed yesterday.

Finished painting the cup racer tow eye and got that back to good condition on the car, as well as stripping 5kg worth of sound deadening out the car as well, every little helps towards the end goal!

Done some digging. Turns out it’s the radiator / hose that’s caused the leak this time and not the water pump
Starting to lose love with the car recently, small issues keep popping up and it’s really demotivating!

Been a while since i updated this .. so i thought I'd have a quick catch up

The coolant loss issue was down to the radiator in the end, glad I got that fixed and didnt have to get the belts and water pump done just yet!

February: time I popped up to AW Motorworks for a service and to get the corner weighting sorted out again, car was a bit lighter than i expected it to be, but still too heavy, the weight shown is with me in the car as well.

March:
Shortly after this I took a trip to bedford with a few friends for a track day, my first time there and really enjoyed it, good fast track but i feel like it's a bit too long for the clios. None the less it was a wicked day and great to get the car back to where its built for! :D

Part 2 here, due to only being able to upload X amount of pics at a time ..

A couple weeks passed ... Got a new passenger seat and some new pads, decided to try out some DS 1.11's for this year and so far they're pretty decent! got the seat sorted and the lap belt holes drilled while at Alex's sorting the brakes out.

Then coming up to the past few weeks / today I got round to the rear pads .. One of the materials fell out on the way to caffeine and machine last month, didnt realize how bad they where so its a bit embarrassing! Got some brembo's in there to get me along for a couple weeks until my PBS pro track's turned up, which I got in and sorted this afternoon.

Been a while since i updated .. completely forgot about this progress thread.

TLDR is, Time attack is go go go for 2024

Fitted a new windscreen wiper motor the other week due to the last one packing in, and cleaned out the scuttle while I was there

Few things to do, rear calipers are being refurbished by MC Custom, and along with that i've got brand new OEM rear brake hose's to go from caliper - braided lines. bonnet catches and bumper quick releases

I'll try keep this updated a bit more on the path up to round one at anglsey

Deep cleaning day the weekend that just went, arch liners out and bare metal out. Nice to get the Yellowspeeds cleaned up again and lowered the car a tad up front both sides also

Track wheels on with the AR1's and sold the black wheels with the AD08RS's on which was a bonus.

Fire extinguisher and kart seat turned up so gave them a test fit today, prior to bolting in saturday! - Yes the seat is for the passenger, and yes it is allowed by regulations of time attack.

Today's job was changing the rear springs from 4kg to 8kg to get the back end a lot stiffer and let me have a bit more dampening adjustability now which will be handy.
9e60d4a7-b045-426c-8fb9-d97d07b37bee.jpg

Managed to set it up so I've got some rake in there now, it looks a lot in the photo but front / rear difference is only half an inch in height.

And after having one car's suspension sorted, the daily Kuga needed a new front spring, annoyingly enough it had snapped and we didn't notice on the test drive .. Rip me. Easy change as it has a new strut anyway

Great build mate, can i ask where these pedals are from please?

Also do you know how much engine dynamics charge for a remap?

Thanks

Thanks!
Pedals, I can't honestly remember who i got them from, lemme have another look about!
ED remap will be custom to you, I'm not sure of their price or if it'll be the same as mine, worth giving them a bell and checking :)

Anglesey rounds one / two.

Car was ready, set and was a great laugh and a good drive being able to push harder than I've been able to.

Arrived Friday afternoon and got set up, tyre pressure and fuel where checked and sorted ready for practice in the morning.

Round one:

Round one was on the coastal circuit at Anglesey. Started off well getting used to the track again after almost a year since I've driven it, lap times started slow but got better over the day's outings, from a 1:26.3 down to a respectful 1:24.2 in warm up. Thinking it would be a good idea to change the suspension and tyre pressures to something else to try, ended me back up to a 1:26.001 .. not what we wanted! Changed everything back and hit a 1:24.7 in the finals, not bad but could have done way better. This put me 7th out of 8th which wasn't what i wanted.

Sunday bought me round two on the International circuit, adding two straights and a nice hair pin into it was a fun challenge.

Having learnt the other 90% of the circuit Saturday, I was straight up to speed and finding my feet with the new braking and turning points, which meant a bit of sideways action coming down into one of the corners which was good fun.
Started off well with a 1:52.5 and dropping way down to a 1:47.7 in the final run, ending up in 5th out of 7, missing out on fourth place by 0.05 seconds ..!!

Car ran faultlessly over the whole weekend, apart from an ABS / ESP warning lights coming on half way through the finals, but they seemed to have gone away for now. Will be checking over the car this week before cadwell in 2 weeks time.

Always good to share some news in my motorsport venture. As a lot of you know I’ve been wanting to race properly for several years and being able to get into it this year is a massive step for me.
Last year I met the guys from JD Motorsport Engineering at a track day, where they were doing track side support at for me and a bunch of others that headed up to Snetterton. I got chatting to John at the end of the day and mentioned about Time Attack and my plans and ideas.
Fast forward 6 months, we met up again at Autosport International and they proposed an offer for the 2024 season.

Being a massive help with their motorsport knowledge, contacts and useful info about a world I’ve never been part of, this was a very easy yes!

After a great result at Round 3 at Cadwell, they have now decided to come onboard full time, to run the car for the season and as title partner, track side support and full race maintenance, parts supply and also to keep me in line

Being able to go from a solo driver to having a team to support me in my first season is an unexpected but welcome feat I never thought would ever happen. I never realised how much I needed someone hanging a board over the pit wall for me!

Baby update, car's up with JD now for the rest of the season.
He did a quick check over the car today before monday's preperation day for brands and found one of my suspension bolts (cant remember where) was loose which isnt ideal. So hopefully that stays tight!

my new poly front windows came through also and got fitted, I have some track door cards arriving hopefully next week and the doors will get shaved down to bare minimum for weight saving .. one week left till round 4 at brands

What a day this was .. been a while since I’ve been at Brands Hatch so it was great to get back.
Session one was super greasy, ended up have a spin and an off a couple laps in which threw me off unfortunately. Session two was cut short by 18 minutes due to a crash (and then luckily given back 10 minutes) ..
Qualifying went super well, was up on my original PB from practice, but we ended up 7th over all with room to push.
Finals came round, small spots of traffic but averaging 57’s was great all session long! Ended with a 57.071 which is a new PB for me putting us 6th over all (5th if you don’t count the single entry) which is awesome. Ended up infront of both K swap clio's as well.

First race with the team along side which great, less stressed during the day and the car was kept tip top and ready to go for each round (and i was pretty well looked after as well) which was VERY nice haha

Had a new sponsor come on for this season, as well as my local brewery wanting to help and show some support for me in my local area.

Track door cards very kindly agree'd to coming on board this year, so i'm not running theirtrack door cards which where a big change from the standard cards, as well as making it look more race cary

Round 6 - Donington Park. First time having been here, it was another learning curve but nothing I haven’t done before. With the hopefully achievable goal of 1:25, and a dream of 1:23 in mind, we went into it.
Warm up - Straight out, learning the circuit and getting to grips with the car again setting a healthy 1:25.322. A 1:25 being my first goal, this made me super happy already and gave me the drive to go quicker!
Practice - Settling back into the car and feeling good with the track layout, I started pushing a bit more to find a few more limits of the car and circuit which was fun to do. Setting a respectable 1:24.987, so slowly taking the time down to my goal.
Qualifying - With the car set and ready for quali we head out, 4 minutes into the session we got red flagged due to an incident, thankfully the driver was all good. The session got cut down to 10 minutes which meant I had to get a wiggle on. Setting a 1:25.143, which unfortunately was slower than practice due to not managing to find a good space and empty track.
Finals - Went out, ready to make the most out of the final session and get some good times set in, unfortunately there was another incident which meant another red flag. Back in the pits we realised the timer was still running, so time was definitely against us when I went back out. With the last push to be now or never, I had to drive as hard as I could, and in true style I set my fastest lap on the final lap of the finals, hitting a 1:23.987 which was my target for the day.
Huge thanks to @jdmotorsport_engineering for the excellent help as always, couldn’t have done it without out them.
Brands Hatch round 7 - let’s get it

Brands Hatch round 7 of Time Attack UK must have been my best round so far.

Warm up - Starting off dry and getting back into the swing of it and finding my feet on the circuit again was good fun, whilst setting the car back up for brands through this session, we hit a respectable 57.591 and knowing there was room to keep pushing.

Practice - With practice just around the corner the heavens opened, being the first time I’ve driven in the wet in years I was extremely nervous but very confident in my ability to be able to drive my best in what seemed to be a torrential downpour. Setting a 1:04.504 putting us third place, showed I had the capability to drive fast in the wet also.

Qualifying - With the rain still present and feeling confident with driving in the wet, I went out and pushed even more having quickly learnt a new line of a very wet circuit. Setting a 1:04.338 which put me 4th in qualifying which is the highest I’ve qualified so far, and being in the wet made me SUPER happy.

Finals - The finals ended up drying out and becoming a perfect circuit for some fast laps, having driven the day more in the wet I was confident I could keep pushing hard with knowing more limits of the car from the first few sessions to push into the finals, setting a 56.454 which put me in 6th place over all.

Extremely happy with how the day went, car was faultless and the guys at JD motorsport engineering did a fantastic job with looking after the car and it’s set up!

Round 8 of Time Attack Championship held at Snetterton 200 was a tough but good day. A very greasy, wet and puddle filled day made for some good driving experiences!

Warm up - Warm up ended up being super greasy first thing, so we opted for the AR1’s as our choice of tyre to start with, due to it not being standing water. I headed out and set some good lap times, learning the circuit and conditions again. Going sideways through bomb hole as I passed Anthony Mann wasn’t part of the plan, but I worked it to my advantage to keep finding the limits and improving my car control. Setting a 1:40.381 in the greasy conditions was a good start.

Practice - With the rain inbound, we headed into a wet practice. With experience from Brands Hatch still in my mind, I went out and got to grips with a wetter circuit with the wet tyres on and a new suspension set up to test. With one red flag giving us a good break to have a chat and discuss the car before heading back out, I set a respectable 1:41.455 which I was happy with to start pushing into with the wet weather continuing.

Qualifying - As the wet weather was set to continue, it was time to get a wiggle on. With a fight for 5th taking place between me and Wilko, I had to push on to stay ahead of him throughout the next two sessions. Setting a 1:40.620 putting me in 5th over all was a great motivator for the finals.

Finals - The heavens opened shortly before the final session, making it the wettest it had been all day. With the car set up to suit the conditions we were ready to go for it. Managed to set some good times but unfortunately with 4 minutes left of the session it was red flagged due to a mechanical issue from one of the other competitors, the race was over. Putting in a 1:41.430 with set me 7th over all in the finals.

Having finished up the day, the results put us in 6th overall in the championship and only a couple of points from 5th. It was a good but hard push and we barely missed out on points but proud to have finished this far up in our first season being competitive.
