Clio Cup Race Car seats in a 172?

  FormulaFord Ecoboost
Hi, first time on this forum.

I'm currently looking to buy a 172 Cup as a track car and as such will be replacing the standard seats. I quite fancy the Sabelt ones from the 197 Clio Cup Race Car as they don't appear too expensive. Either or some nice Cobra Suzuka or maybe even the Sebring/Evolutions.

Would I be likely to run into problems with fitting them in 172, specifically the size of them. Anyone got piccies of the Sabelt seats in their car? What are they like?

Thanks in advance

if you buy a cup you'll have no problems with resistors and dash lights for the airbags on them which you have to sort out if its just a normal 172. as for fitment on the sabelt seats im not to sure. maybe best of contacting one of the dealers for sabelt see if they can advise you at all.

 must have some deep pockets especially for Rsport ones.

Pauls supercharged car has some in it.

Are these the same as the sabelt buckets in the R26.R??

nope, they are different in the cup racers.

They go in without too much of a struggle on the standard X85 Clio fitting kit. As said above Paul has them in the 172 Kompressor.

Worth noting that because of the change in Euro worth against the £ they've become much more expensive than they once were!

Cheers

RE costs: I have an old R.Sport price list where they're down as 7711160035 CLIO III STANDARD SEAT £282.58
+vat

I've not called them for the latest price (must remember to do that!) but I'm working on a max of +50% due to euro fluctuation...

If they're much more than that then I'll go for Plan B which is Cobra Suzuka/Sebring or Evolutions.

Thanks for the replies so far :)

No way is that the price for a cup racer seat, £600+ easy.

Called R.Sport today for prices (exc. Vat):

7711160035 Clio III Standard Seat £399.71 (was £282.58)
7711160036 Clio III Seat Harness £157.22 (was £111.70)
7711160037 Clio III Steering Wheel £124.16 (was £88.22)

M8EDJ: This is for the Sabelt Race Seat as pictured above, the seat is available in Standard and XL
7711160192 Clio III X/L Seat was £321.20 (no idea what the price is now)

I think that £919 for two seats isn't too bad when compared to prices for Cobra Evolution/Sebring

All the lights are on in my cup

Apart from the resistors, what would need to be done to fit these into my 182? Will be removing the rear seats but no cage in yet... Will new holes need to be drilled to fit the seat fixtures?

i had Cobra Evolutions in my old 172.

best way to mount them is with a seat bar kit.

i got mine from Custom Cages (were £50 +vat per side)

Allows you to mount the seat alot lower.

They are £345 (500.25 inc VAT) for the Sabelt seats... Then £ 126 (£144.90 inc VAT) for the fixings.

That's strange, I wonder why the price is so different to the price I was quoted. I called R.Sport myself and that was the price they gave me... hmm.

Thanks FMP for the photos, looks great. I assume with the seat bar kit you have to decide exactly where you want the seats before fitting them in? Or do you use sliding subframes?
My next concern, I had a look at a 172 Cup this weekend and I'm a little concerned about how far I have to reach to get the gearstick. This was on a standard car with the seat and steering wheel adjusted as best as I could. So my next question:
If I fit aftermarket seats (Cobra Evolutions or Renault/Sabelts), then fit a new steering wheel on a hub (maybe with a spacer) will I struggle to reach the gearstick? I'm 6 foot.
Thanks

Was that for the small size seats? The one I was quoted on was for the XL version...

Just read above... strange you were quoted less...

Hmm, yes it was for the small seats... I'm wondering if my arse might be too big for the small seats and maybe I'll have to get XL ones. For that price I could get Kevlar Cobra Evolutions.

Maybe what I should do is have a sit in some Cobra Evos and then try the Sabelt/Renaults (but where I'll get the chance to do this I don't know!)

Chap said anyone with hips over 34in then XL is needed. I think they are designed for the youger drivers?? for a tiny bit more cash might as well go for the XL. They only have one in stock but more due this week. Also have side mounts in stock too.
