clio mk1 f4r hybrid project

i am starting my project thread again as the last one was terrible lol

i bought the shell off of a mate who thought it was a good idea to take out a perfectly good f7p engine and replace it with the worlds most unreliable 1.4 gtt engine,
after running out of money and enthusiasm he decided to sell it to me with full willy interior, for 300 notes

i started by completley stripping the exterior and removing and treating all rust, behind the front wings was quite bad but all have been welded up and primed to stop any water ingress.

Glad to see a proper project thread starting for this, it looks like a great car from the pictures in your last attempt :)

when i jacked it up and the jack disapeered into the cill i realised it may be a bit rotten
so while i was away the elfs went to work on the cill thanks to jamesb so when i retured to the unit the cill had been repaired welded and undersealed, as had the big hole in the boot.

the trial fitting was goin well and i had the engine out and at 12oclock at night we decided to see if it was going to fit,
getting carried away i tried putting it in with all the aircon and alternator still on which is not recomended .
after removing all this while the engine was in the air it bolted straight in with no modifications apart from gearbox mount (thanks to dannyr for this information)

engine was back out for cleaning and painting which is not my favorite past time,
so after a full nights work the engine was finally ready for final fitting and the dreaded wireing

well i took a step back and let my good friend mark butterworth founder of the ctd club in suffolk take over on the wireing,
all the wireing was done in one nights work, i used 172 dash clocks and engine ecu, wired into the original valver car loom. unlocked 172 ecu and emulator chip.
after wireing was complete it wouldnt start, we tested all the solder joints, leads all were sparking and couldnt understand why it wouldnt fire, until the father in law came down to the unit one day and suggested a sollution to this problem............................................F.U.E.L
yes i forgot about an important aspect of the internal combustion engine, it had no fuel,

after getting over this brain teaser of a problem it fired first time!

wheels arived, a rare find on ebay, these wheels were in good condition but good it not good enough for me,
they cost me a mere £160 with center caps
so as they had a decent paint job on them.... i sent them to the shot blaster lol
underneath the paint they were mint no dents cracks or repairs.
as we speak they are being painted by the brother in law but will not fit these untill last thing after the car has been painted

as im on hold over xmas and in the filling and sanding stage of the shell, plus dannyr is rubbing his gleaming new ph2 in my face, i thought id take delivery of a new daily sensible driver lol
so as with all dailys you just have to leave them standard.....

and then i was left home alone with my computer......

  Whichever has fuel
You should have just bought my project off me.

No rust, fully caged, no iffy repairs on the sills and all hard work done.

Exhaust was done yesterday full power flow custom system with 172 decat, 57mm all the way through with Center silencer and back box with 21/2 inch rolled tip,
Fairly loud may have to add something else when it's road worthy but it will do for now,

I am new to the forum after buying myself a Mk1 clio 1.8 16v which has had the 172 conversion done.
I intend on doing trackdays with it and the first one being booked for 16th feb at oulton.

Since purchasing, i have had the cambelt and tensioners done along with the dephaser...(not cheap) and all seems well until i was driving it the other night and the aux belt came off which runs the alternator and water pump. This made the car overheat and battery die all at the same time. (the joys..lol)

This happened apparently because the power steering pump has been removed so the engine would fit therefore leaving the aux belt without enough tension or enough tensioners.

Do you have any experience of this and if so what was there solution to it???

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.
Darren

sorry about all the questions...lol...i have a mk1 clio with 172 conversion that i recently brought and my aux belt came off due to the power steering pump being removed which gave the belt extra tension. Looking for a solution now if possible.

I run a cup set up clio 172 cup alternator brackets and alternator, I use a manual tensioner with a 850mm belt so no need for aux spring tentsioner, simple and works well
