Clio MK3 Facelift Project

To be frank I would just get the Turbo Charged 1.1 and kit it out so it produces 135BHP ish. All you need is 172/182 injectors and a remap and your already tapping 128+BHP, an aftermarket exhaust and filter would compliment that loads. Then you have fuel economy when you don't want to slam it about and a lovely pulling turbo when you want it. Petrol and Tax may hit you harder than you expect with a 1.6! Depends how you drive though, urban; extra urban or motorways?

Yes longlife full cat back. I have to say; the car looks a million times better with it. I'm sure we will all agree that they are damn good looking cars.

I know tbh I'd prefer the tce engine! But the fact the GT has the sport body kit, dual tipped exhaust, sport alloys, cruise control, climate control, front and rear disk brakes, half leather interior, 6 speed gearbox makes it real tempting. My local garage can get me it for almost the same as I'm paying monthly for this just now haha!
Tempting very tempting!

As for my driving, I get about 42mpg on the clio just now, mainly on the motorway as I commute to uni during the week. So I think the 1.6 would suit pretty well. Would still prefer the tce though, if it added up spec wise!

Gonna test drive this, this week.

If your down for power figures.

1.1 TCE 155nm Torque 98 BHP - Mapped to 170nm & 135~BHP with injectors included. £400 quid (At most).
1.6 NA 155nm Torque 126 BHP - NA reliability, power power power.

1.1 would come out on top for pull (Not far off a 2.0l might feel like a 1.8), 1.6 for top speed.

Again, it comes down to how long you want the car for, reliability definately a 1.6 because the map on the 1.1 will eventually catch up to it.

If we raced these, where I would come out on top for out of corner pulling, you'd beat me when I'd have turbo lag; where you'd beat me in straights, I'd beat you in weight (Not sure how heavy the engine difference is).

That VVT is utterly sexy, no idea why anyone would even sell that.

That above car actually looks the same as mine apart from the sport seats (I'm getting R100 buckets) and the side skirts.

You can get a 1.1 TCE GT Line Clio; I have one! Sat Nav and everything you've labelled above! £8000 10k miles.

I'll give the gt vvt a test drive. Maybe they'll be nice and let me have a shot of a tce model too, since I got my car from them :)

As for choosing between them, I think I'd still go with the gt. The spec for the same money is just considerably more, would seem like more of an upgrade from the clio I have at the moment.

Shall update with my opinion in the next couple of days. Only in uni a half day tomorrow so I'll go try them out if they let me :)

Whats insurance like on the 1.6 bro? If its good then I'd probably be inclined to agree with you. If you test drive both, get back to me I'd like to know how different they feel! I know the TCE Jumps a little bit at half throttle at low RPM's because of turbo spool.

Might actually feel no difference at all! :O If its priced the same though then its a no brainer.

Won't regret it. Fuel economy is the reason I never got a 2.0l 197/200 because I drive extra urban, we are talking 2-5 mile journeys regular. Would have such a bad MPG from it.

If you hard drive a TCE you can get them as low as 28MPG.

I'm sure there must be something wrong with our TCE as it only gives 40mpg in the very best of times. On average, the 182 gives us better mpg provided i'm light footed.

It's only an extra 200 for me to change to the 1.6 on my policy, so about 880 in total and that's for the remaining 10 months on my policy. Keep in mind I'm 18, only been driving since January, that's bloody good!

Tested out the GT, was really nice to drive! Could definitely feel the extra power compared to my 75hp clio, 50 odd more horses to play with ;) the steering was a lot more sensitive too, couldn't really tell that the suspension was stiffer but the handling definitely felt better, and had a nice wee sound too it from the twin exhaust :)
Seemed a bit weird having a 6th gear too haha!

Spoke to the parents and I think I'm gonna go for it. It's only about an extra 50 quid more a month than what I pay now on finance.

Everyone seems to doubt everything everyone says on this forum, here's a picture for your interests:
(On the other hand I'm not sure if your trying to slate or not? Excuse me if you aren't)

Exactly the same! When I drove the TCE I was putting my foot down normally but then I was taking it back off because it was going too fast! Great feeling.

The steering too, going from what you have to one of these is absolutely outstanding; it feels like your moving a feather!

Yeah mate, if that's what you want then go for it! Great looking car and I hope you put up a project on here ;)

But please no yellow fog tints or car stickers! The car is gorgeous without them.

nope not trying to slate. just not happy with our TCE's MPG at the moment :( should be up 50/60mpg.

Cars never seem to live up to their stated mpg haha. :( my parents 2013 fiesta 1.0 ecoboost should be like 50-60 and it's lucky if it gets 35 on the trip computer lol! Quick little car though!

Oh yeah I do like those EcoBoosts, 120BHP or so isn't it for a 1.0l? They never state Extra Urban conditions only Motorway. On a good motorway run I can get 50MPG, 55 is unachievable though.

It's a 100hp I think, but still quick! Yeah I can get about 45mpg max in my clio at the moment.

Think I've decided on the GT guys and the parents seem alright about it. FINGERS CROSSED. Gonna see if the garage phone back and try negotiate a little first.
Paying 880 for insurance on it at 18, seems good to me. Most of my mates are paying 2000+ on 1.0 - 1.2 corsas and fiestas. :)

Okay a quick update.

Deposit is down on the GT, picking it up on Thursday/Friday. Ill post photos etc once I've got it! :)

UPDATE:

Picking up the GT in the morning, so excited haha!
I'll post some pics, my thoughts and whatnot once I got it ;)

Ok picked up the clio earlier! Wow, such a difference compared to the iMusic 1.2, it's much nicer to drive.

The car doesn't rock/bounce around so much like the last one, suspensions a bit stiffer, handling is improved also.

Shifts when you want it to, but isn't gonna kill me haha! Still, it's so much faster than the 1.2, as expected I suppose ;)
The seats feel like they are hugging you when you throw it round a corner haha, comfier and more support.

Overall just much nicer to drive. It's too dark for photos now, but I'll get my proper camera out sunday and take some.

Very impressed though.:):):)

Got impatient and decided to take some quick snaps. Poor quality, but the best I could do when it's almost pitch black with a slight orange glow from the street lamps.
Using a canon 550D and a 50mm 1.8f lens, flash just reflected off everything shiny tbh!

Looks exactly the same from the back as mine and I do want a pair of those side skirts and splitter! Looks sexy as fuark! I had mine mapped to and it's pushing 130bhp at 155ftlb torque. Hell of a pull! I might be able to keep up with you now ;)

love it! Love the gt! you going to get lows? the wheel gap is ridiculous on the mk3s! lovely car though!

Yeah i will probably go with springs further down the line once I have the moneyz haha. Driving it though is so different to the 1.2, both power and handling. Takes corners much better, and much less body roll! Would be even better if lowered.

Any idea what size of wheels would be best to go for if I decided further down the line?
Not sure wether 18's would be too big?
Opinions would be appreciated :)

i'd stick with 16's,not many people on here are fans of 17's and 18's. but its completely up to you!

i personally like the standard gt alloys!

Thinking about it, I like them too, but I think I'd like them a lot more though if I got rid of the silly arch gap! Maybe I should look at doing that before new wheels :)

Can anyone recommend what springs to go with? Can't get coilovers with my current insurance unfortunately :(

  Renault Clio III GT
Nice car Harry, good choice!

I got rid of the gap with an Eibach Prokit 30/30. The GT went down 3cm. And i got 17" black Ultraleggeras from OZ. They look much better than the standard GT Wheels. I'm certainly a fan of the 17".

apex are suppose to be good budget ones

Checked them out, decent priced! Don't like the fact they're yellow though, want something that looks oem :p For similar money I can get h&r springs that lower it 45mm, heard anything good about them?

I've certainly heard a great deal of good reviews about the eibach springs, but I don't know if 30mm would be enough or not :/

I actually seen your thread a while back, the ultraleggeras are very nice ;)
Do you think the eibach springs lowered it enough? Or should I go for 45mm springs?
I'm gonna keep the gt wheels and lower it first and then think about maybe changing the alloys.

Took me a good 6 months or so to find one, apart from my Saturday job I had in a music shop, that only gave me money for one night out at the weekend hahah :p

Changed the dipped beam bulbs today, to some whiter, brighter ones I had lying around. Also changed out the sidelight bulbs for some LED's from halfords... Don't think I'll get any bulbs from there again, too pricey. I'd already taken them to the till to get the price though, didn't want to seem silly aha!
