Hasn't it been on about 20 times? I'm sure I read somewhere it didn't affect the RS models - I can't see how that could be true though.

Aye, it's been on loads of times and RS owners should be wary of them too.

Problem is that Renault didn't do any kind of re-call. Just denied it was happening at all for several months, and then eventually sent a bit of paper through the post for you to put in your service manual to remind their mechanics to check it. Hardly fills you with confidence...!

My mates corsa was re-called for a check on the ABS.

I've not had a letter or anything about my bonnet from reno.

I recently bought a 172 and was a little worried about mine, as it hasn't been checked... spoke to my local reno garage... am now booked in for a FREE RENO HEALTH CHECK... would defo recommend, as they'll check the whole car... including the Bonnet Catch, and it's FREE!! Hope this helps!?

Renault sent a letter to all clio II owners but the owners details they obtained from the dvla was months out of date. Some of the Clios have a plastic slider mechanism on the safety catch which imo is a lot worse and should be changed with a metal type one (as mainly used on mk2ph1s).

Renault say its down to mainenance by the owner, but most car owners these days never lift up their own bonnets and have a poke around. I checked my brothers 3 year old clio that has always been serviced by Renault and the safety catch was jammed on that.

Its also worth noting that the same catch is used on other Renaults and Renault vans.

Does it actualy NEED to go to Reno for this?

Or can i just lubricate it/replace it for peace of mind.

wouldn't be fun if it happened on track

The trouble with wd40 is it soon disapears when it gets hot. Best to use some high melting lm grease.

I'd just take it in. Apperently they've actually fitted new catches for some people. Not mine though :dapprove:

Booked mine in for tomorrow morning just in case. I assume if i also ask them to have a quick look at my engine mounts they'll then charge me?

Old news.

Renault did write to all its registered owners a few years ago. Incidentally, I did see a clio with the bonnet off and a smashed windscreen on the m25 a few months ago.

Be careful out there

  A white and black one
I think it was all mk1 clios, They had to check when i took my driving test in my car

  Vauxhalls
Ive heard about this..... apparently the hole in the front cross member is rotting out and just letting go of ur bonnet catches. best thing u could do is take it to reno so u can say its been checked properly or check it for rot and/or rust, and lube it up with proper grease, not WD40 thats only penatrating fluid and wil probs last a couple of hours lol.

The thing with the ABS recall on vauxhall corsa's is that they are having new ABS ECU's because of water ingress into the ECU and in some rare cases are shorting out and catching fire....oops....not good on any day.

And the thing with the vauxhall vectra's and signum's (they are the same car - different shell) is that they have rear discs so ppl pull their handbrakes up and it can sometimes fall down one click, releasing the pads off the disc. ppl jus need to pull 'em up nice nd tight nd press the brake at the same time. Idiots.
