Whilst its good practice, it rarely damages the big ends. I have only ever come across one Renault 19 16v where a belt broke, it was all rebuilt then about 1000 miles later the ends started knocking.
It is good that you have thought about this, and by all means its excellent practice to do it if you have the time and want to make the effort. But 9 times out of 10 the bearings remain OK.
