Clio182 trophy??????

Last night I dreamt that you had something relevant to say but alas I was disappointed............

;)
Keep dreaming. It'll happen one day :)

I love trophys. As said they are the pinnacle of the Mk2 clio. There isn't really a good reason not to get one, considering how small the price difference is, the exclusivity and slightly higher residuals. No need for mods. No fuss.

P.S. I wasn't kidding about my dream. That really happened!

To the OP I'd just buy a 172 cup, put some H&R/AST coilovers on it a good set of buckets...it will be quicker, and handle the road very well

Thing is you'd never get the money back you've spent on the mods and the Trophy will hold its value as its a limited edition car.

Then again beggars can't be choosers eh Fletch

;)

You need to eat some cheese or something before you go to bed maybe you'll have better dreams

The trophy is the best car I've driven on a difficult b road, end of. I prefer the standard 182cup setup for track as it's a bit more adjustable, and the softer front gets the power down easier. Trophy seats aren't low enough or supportive enough for track either.

I've owned every variant of the Clio rs's bar the 172 cup. For your uses, you can't beat a trophy then. The icing on the cake is that they hold value better than all other variants.

  Better than yours. C*nt.

Seats were my biggest gripe. They're not massively supportive and you have to crouch to fit in they're that high! If someone finds a way to fix that then it's a great motor.

If i bought one id always have the nagging feeling at the back of my mind that Renault needed to get rid of a couple of hundred of the crappest colour shells they had lying around, and their plan was to just stick some gimmicky suspension on them and brown envelope evo mag for a few hundred k.

Hmmm.

What do you drive?

I notice you don't have it in your profile?

But hey feel free to spout s**t like that its a great way to impress people

;)

By using tools and machines designed for these things, rather than an arsehole with an attitude and social problem.

Good one Mike, Steve has owned a Trophy and done more that 2000 miles in it and has also posted a suspension sticky up on Clio Trophy.

You sir are tonight's winner in the game of life

Don't f**king but one then. Honestly, no one that's genuinely had a go in one will know within a 100yds how different they are to a 182. As if they had a bunch of pre painted shells lying about. And that wouldn't explain why they were originally going to be yellow, would it??

I loved my Trophy, put over 20k on one, did a few trackdays and a ring trip and it was a lot of fun, but I'm sure as Fletch pointed out you could have the same amount of fun for less monies tbh.

Doesn't stop him having issues though, does it.

Please stop winking at me. I'm developing homophobia.

Trophys are so massivly over-rated. They're not s**t, they're actually pretty good, but they're not better by the margin that the price tag and the attached ego suggests.

I've driven something like 10 different ones, a couple of which I've pushed fairly hard, on the owners instruction.

It's a red 182 with nice suspension, shite seats, and a stupid spoiler that makes the boot open to head height so it's ideal for really pissing you off.

Meh

  Cayman S Edition 1
Christ what a thread this is!

All I have to say is, drive one and if you like it then great.

Personally, I love my Trophy for the following reasons;

1. Great handling
2. RED with anthracite Turinis looks the nuts
3. Its rare
4. Great seats

Having to fork out £500 to refurb the shocks (just been done) is all part of the commitment I think Trophy owners are willing to show in order to keep these rare motors in good nick.

I've test driven a 172, 182, owned a 197 and also own a Megane 225 (wife's car). The Trophy has the best handling of all IMO but they're ALL different cars and great in their own right.

Damn I agree with you Danny but mine'll soon have those issues ironed out and therefore will be awesome.

Jamie this is just for you and the reason I put smileys in is the same reason I end my texts with them I'm a cheerful b*****d

:) ;) :(

Why is it that Trophy's in particular always seem to polarize peoples opinions on this board like no other Clio before it?

Like my Clio172 before it, the Trophy is a great car, though I suspect the the Clio200 Cup has moved the game on a little bit. Would I buy one to replace the Trophy? probably not.

  S3, Polo
So, to the OP and to summarise:

a) there's not a huge difference on paper between all of the RS models, but the Trophy is in a different league to drive. Though not according to Danny. Who's driven more RS's than most.

b) matt has a hard-on for his car and likes to wink at lads. Because he's a happy chap.

Awesome.

;)

lol.

So ok no one has said reliability. Might be stuipid question but im a ford man at the mome so not massively clued up on clios.

Every1 keeps moaning about the steering wheel melting and how big it is, how crap they are when cold etc etc.

Do you have same issues with the trophy

The steering wheels do melt but you can always change it for an aftermarket one and the cold start lumpy idle clears up after a minute or so.

I believe one of the new RS Tuner maps sorts this out speak to www.jmstuning.co.uk as they can do remaps at a very good price.

Feel free to PM me or take a look at www.cliotrophy.co.uk as there's lots of good advice and a register so you can see who's owned the car before usually.

:)

  172 - 249bhp @ the wheels
For a standard Clio they are the 2nd best 2.0... after the Williams, which is more special imo. As an everyday car to live with however it beats a Williams hands down.

If it's a run about buy a normal Clio 2.0, if you intend to do things to it, then get a Ph1 as they are cheaper and spend the rest of the money on mods and you'll have a better car than any of the standard Renaults.

No I don't want to Anything to it.as I said

I need it to be a everyday car. Fast and reliable. So 182 or 182 trophy

Trophy will hold its value and is a more fun car straight away and needs no modifications.

Its also very reliable and I get 30mpg even driving it hard everyday.

I love mine and doubt I'll ever sell it

:)

Having owned both, Trophy everytime fella.

Rly? For everyday use I found the suspension a bit unforgiving in the Trophy - where my 182 would glide along the Trophy would 'inform' you of the bumps. Whilst that's great if you want to drive really, really quick - is it worth having to put up with that on a daily basis?

I don't agree. Having had plenty of suspension setups on the RS', I've found that the rear suspension set-up has a greater influence on the ride quality than the front, and given that the rear set-up of a cup'd 182 is nearly identical to a Trophy, there's hardly any difference. IMHO.

I think it boils down to what you want from a car if found the Trophy hits a sweet spot and glides but its horses for courses really.

Maybe its worth driving both cars and seeing how each feels back to back if possible.

:)

For what its worth i was told by the editorial director of evo mag over a pint that his trophy was too harsh for everyday A road driving, and he could not put up with it on a daily basis.
