Iirc it's also faster than the 172 cup? I heard the dampers give the car an extra 5 bhp?

If you have the money, get a Trophy! You won't regret it.

It shouldnt in theory fail, but they do need serviced (IIRC @ a cost of £500) Some seem to need it sooner than others but it certainly wouldnt put me off buying one.

I would say they are 'all' due for the dampers servicing by now!
They were all built early 05 so nearly 5 yrs old.
 
Anyone worked out yet why Renault thought a small light front wheel drive road car would need remote resevoirs to prevent damper fade?

A trophy thats never been near a track and only driven on the motorway with say 18,000 miles on it i wouldnt think would need it.

One with 30,000-45k on it thats done 2 track days a year since it left the factory id maybe say so...

Suspension is wear and tear :S

I believe that as there essentially race shocks they don't have the same seals as road ones so suffer badly if used on salted roads etc.

So its not the mileage so much but how well they've been cleaned and looked after.

At RWS 2006 the head of Renaultsport France spoke to Nik, myself & a few others as we were standing by our Trophy's.
He explained how they were motorsport derived & rebuilding them was part of ownership.
I believe 30,000 was the point mentioned.
Ben at BG is the guy who services these, it's my thread thats the sticky if you care to read it on CT.
Our weather or the salt thats put on the roads is the major cause of them needing a overhaul.
How many commenting have owned one?
When i sold my T it had done 17K & ?? trackdays;)

That's not the point its the suspension that makes the Trophy so good on B roads but a well set up 172/182 on AST's would be better as a track car.

I assume the op's looking at buying one. Depends what you're using it for. If it's a road car pure and simple, it's the best 2l Clio there is. But if it's for a track car, a 182/182cup is a better starting point.

If I was doing alot of track days I would just get the Mark Fish upgrade to my springs and rear shocks.

The cup is quicker on track than a trophy irrc, Warren?

they are also a better base as they are cheaper to buy so money saved could be spent on decent sus, which would also see it round a track quicker than a Trophy.

The Trophys trump card is pure B-Road pace.

Standard vs standard, the Trophy is the pinnacle of all 2.0 Clio's. Fact, and proven time and time again. Yes, any of the other Clio's can be made to be as good as a Trophy, but none of them will ever feel as special out of the box. The Sachs dampers puts the car head and shoulders above every single one of its competitors. They turn a good car into one of the all time greats.

Drive one and see. They're fantastic cars. For our typical British b-roads, none of the others come close.

My mates trophy had 72k on and his dampers seemed fine. I've driven all Clio sports apart from the ph1 to an inch of there life and as much as I like the trophy I prefer the adjustability of the cup models. Owned both cup models and could of bought a trophy. The trophy just sticks where the cups are more loose.
