colour coding question

just read the guide on colour coding but didnt quite understand one part of it.

how long should te base coat be left before you laquer it? and whats meant by key? im presuming it means grip no?

should say how long on the tin..and you have to give it a good "key" before you start other wise the paint wont stick properly...use some fine sandpaper.

so is key just roughen up abit? and do you do that to the base coat before the laqeur?

Its not necessary but if you have uneven areas then go over it with a 2000 grit + , it helps reduce the orange peel effect.
