Courtsey Car (Clio 182 down to a 1.2 rush)

  Shhh
OMG, what have renault given me...its 1.2 8v, and slowwww....dead slow. Got beaten by a 1.1.106 yesterday, thank god i got me clio back from renault. The clio went in with alternator problems, got the car back this morning, and it has a scratch on the LH quarter panel, gonna leave it as im sick of dealing wth renault customer services...after all its only a car.

Now, cant believe how slow a 1.2 8v car is, its a joke, first corner you fall out the seats as there is no side support, the suspension is like jelly, the steering is all over the place, there is no acceleration (found myself at 5-6k all the time), the tyres would squeel when i turned a corner, but the brakes were ok i suppose. Had a good stereo system, the the dash was poor. No temp sensor, no elec mirrors, no trip comp, no cruise control, no traction control (then again it aint for the umfh..)

Ah, good old renault does it again....!!!

"first corner you fall out the seats as there is no side support"

PMSL

Tis funny going from a car with buckets/lumbar support etc to basic seats

I loved my 1.2 8v though.... I think I'd strugle going back to it now!!

lol, i take it you weren't impressed then. my uncle took his 1 year old c class merc in for some warranty work and was given a new micra, that takes the piss:clown:

^^^bwhahahaaaa

Bloke at work had a new beamer which needed fixing and apparently he threw a strop at the garage becauwe they were going to give him a Cavalier as a courtesy car. He refused to drive it!

My car's going in for some warranty work next week, I've told them I want the new Clio to test drive it hahaha. Bet I get a 1.2 automatic.

It's weird.

1.2 -> 2.0 - Quite easy to adjust. You think ya 1.2 is quick then you get 2.0 and it's really rapid.

2.0 -> 1.2 is crazy - 1.2 feels like nothing is happening.

Quite weird how you get used to the power etc..

  Shhh
Tho when i got in the clio again, i sure felt the power....foot str8 to the floor...arse back into the back seat...

Yee Haa....id never have a 1.2 again, maybe a 1.2 16v..

  Clio Trophy 79/500
I can't wait then. Someone smashed into the back of my Trophy, and its going in next week. Hope i don't get a micra. arrghh, i'll take the bus.

Totally agree with that.

I had a 1.2 courtesy car for a few days, it was s**t when i had it but made he 182 feel much better when i got it back.

You get useto the 182 power n it seems slow after a while, until you drive the 1.2 again

I drove a 1.2 16v Clio yesterday and that felt ridiculously slow, so I can't imagine what the 8v must be like. You have to cane it throught the gears to make it move and cornering, as mentioned, is a pathetic experience.

I was pleasantly surprised that it had the auto headlights and rain-sensitive wipers though.

I'd love to drive my first car again now, which I thought was quick when I had it - I bet it would feel just as slow.

I loved it when I used to get given 1.2's as courtesy cars - whilst most things will see them off from a set of lights, if you drive the wheels off of them and keep the momentum up (which is what it's all about after all), they're as fast as most other things out there...

Trouble is they lack the power needed to pull the front through when you get a bit toooooo sideways LOL

Yeah, they're pretty good around town..I just found accelerating onto motorways SO painful :(. In my Ka I'd watch all the bigger-engined cars fly past me and think MEHHHHH. Also, I got cut up constantly but I don't now  .

I know what you mean ^^^

But if you're smooth with them, you rarely ever need to use the brakes...and carrying an extra 10-15mph (compared to your average driver) through bends/roundabouts/onto sliproads makes a huge difference to how fast they seem.

I used to see how few times I could use the brakes on a journey home...really focusses you on being smooth and planning ahead.

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
your all lucky, i left my 1.4 and got a renault 19, on a j plate.
it must of been a 1.8 or something, felt kinda fast, in a tank like way, Firstly i noticed i couldnt actually turn the steering wheel, when i got it moving i dont think the tyres were following the steering wheel i just seemed to be going straight on all the time, then the brakes, wow, the pedal was so close to the clutch i didnt know if i had pressed the wrong one at times.

but hey i guess at least it was running unlike a clio i know!!

If people don't kick up a fuss then things will never improve!

At least write a letter of complaint to a head office.

Reading this makes me sad, i only have a 1.2 16v clio and for my first car i reckon its nippy but then again i have nothing to compare it to.
As soon as the insurance stops taking the piss i reckon its time to upgrade to the sport.

I want a 225 when I take mine in..! *bangs fist on desk*

  Black 172
Ahh i know the 1.2 well, i had a new shape clio 52 plate 1.2 16v i didnt think it was that bad to be honest, and i have a 172 now. Saying that though i havent driven a 1.2 since i bought my 172 ! i had a dynamique so inside it was the same as the 172 trip computer, same seats as 172 but not leather. But will have to have a drive in one and see how different it feels!

  05 1.2 Dynamique
i know exactly what you mean, i drive a few different vechicles every week with work, golf gti, bora tdi 130, polo tdi, caddy tdi. and every time i get back in my 1.2 i go through a mini deppression cycle. one day a sport will be mine till then i'll just keep hammering works cars.

  Clio 172 Phase 2
i just made out that i was interested in buying one and trading in my 172, maybe the dealer isn;t doing too well, maybe they haven't hit their targets so they gave me the car?? who knows, i know one thing for sure i'm gonna drive the boll**ks out of it....don;t you just love courtesy cars!!??

  VaVa
I agree with mark - I had a 1.2 16v dynamique and it was actually quite refreshing - quiet, smooth, same seats essentially as the 172 and handlied OK.

First courtesy car was a 1.2 8v boggo jobbie - truly awful!! Underpowered wasn't the word - I kept cutting people up at junctions etc - thinking I could nip out, but soon realising that the 1.2 8v doesn't do 'nip'. lol.

My 172 felt like a rocket ship with bucket seats after spending a day in that 1.2. lol.

  Shhh
Its good when you get back into the car, you realise what you have been missing and why you bought the car. The fact that i wheel spun it out the forecourt and up the road just brought it all back....

And that reminded me to turn the traction control off, would cut out when turning 90 degree bends....tut tut..there my tyres and ill party if i want too..
