cs_rich's Fiesta ST3

Once again I've replaced my car on forum advice, albeit a bit sooner than expected thanks to a suicidal deer.

This time around it's a Molten Orange Fiesta ST3:

and yes, it looks red 95% of the time, but that 5% it looks fantastic.

Nothing major done to it yet other than the usual upgrades to headlights, mats, updating Sync etc. I'm currently looking at a Collins remap with plans to get around to exhaust, IC, induction etc. over the next 12mths. Hopefully all that will see me somewhere around 240bhp which is probably plenty to be going on with.

Looked at these, and this colour too. Wading through the rubbish proved tough.

Looks great and an all-round fun car.

Yeah, I'd looked previously when I was shopping for the Megane and it wasn't great pickings. This one popped up literally 9 miles away from me so I got really lucky. Seems to be in a decent condition (barring some stone chips touched up in something other than Molten Orange).

I know someone who will have a pretty lengthy spreadsheet for every aspect of ownership.

I'm no stranger to spreadsheets myself ;)

Standard cat? I found mine way too loud with the MT exhaust and sports cat.

Good to see that has the correct colour seats!
Yeah, standard cat (for now). I've gone for the Milltek non-resonated (non-race) cat-back which is allegedly not too loud.

Not sure which way I'll go on the sports cat as the Collins CP2-E (240bhp) package includes it, but I've heard people say that it's not really a problem until you're north of 250bhp. Either way, a problem for next year I think.

And yes, the coloured seats were definitely a requirement!

Smart little car by the way. (y)

Should make for some similar reading.

If I could make this one again I would, I could make it so much better now...in fact that's how I view all my earlier efforts; terrible and cringeworthy!

Confusingly it's a video that steadfastly refuses to die! 2.5 years old now and it's still clocking up 1k views per month (which is very good for me)!

I think you'll be fine without, the exhaust on these was never a limiting factor. I recall one tuner knocking out circa 300bhp on standard exhaust and filter...I think the only thing it had was a bigger intercooler to keep a lid on the temps. Of course they keep that quiet as they want to sell you sh*t you don't need!

I would certainly echo this, albeit in a slightly different line. As a professional writer/editor, I never read my old work after it's been published, as I will always find stuff I want to change!

I got 230 bhp and 270 ft lb torque with standard exhaust and intake. Just a £300 remap by eco tune in Glasgow. Before and after rolling road printouts etc.

Even with the m140. I still miss the ST a bit. They are really fun cars to drive. The gear change is the best of any car I’ve driven.

Well I've only got the map on so far (exhaust on Monday) and it definitely feels a lot quicker so I'd guess I'm somewhere around their power-wise too.

Big difference is the removal of torque limiters which means it does trouble the ESP in 2nd now, Might be time to replace the ZZ5s with some P4s....

I wore out the Pirelli’s in 10 months. Replaced with some continentals and it was miles better.

I'll be honest when I had my ST I looked at Collins but in the end went with peron stage 1+. I had the itg intake, scorpion res exhaust. I had the car Dyno'd at a car day at a local remapping firm. Made 239bhp.

Really enjoying it still, though embarrassingly I've only done about 1,000 miles since I go it.

Just had a quick spin. Might just be all in my head but definitely seems better at the top end now. Before it just ran out of puff after about 5k but now it seems like it's actually worth revving it out.

1000 miles why?

Only thing I ever done to my ST was a remap. Cost £270 am with a dyno proven 227bhp and 270ftlb torque.

Even with that the standard Intercooler coped fine. Also think the standard shift on these are perfect. Never tried a quick shift.

You still happy with the car?

Yeah, though it's not exactly getting much use.

I keep a spreadsheet of mileage / mpg etc (@MarkCup) and I'm doing about 50 miles a month since lockdown so I'm not getting that much opportunity to enjoy it.

That said, it's still such a satisfying car to pedal down a narrow b-road and really does go like stink.

I'm on CP2 at the minute which, with the intake as well, is probably good for about 220bhp. CP2-E (with the IC and actuator) should be okay for 240bhp (probably the max on std turbo) and I have to say I did notice some loss of power when it was proper hot the other week.

My wife ran one for 2 years, was a nice car that we both really liked, she still misses it a little today (since then she's had a Cooper S and now a T-Roc R, because of baby naturally..)

My only criticism was the one that always gets bounded about, the ride on it was just bone shakingly hard. I remember being a passenger in it one time when I had a kidney stone and that combo was making me feel physically sick, had to go home after a mile or two!

Hers was an early (14 plate) ST-2 so I know they revised the setup on later cars.

As blasphemous as it sounds, if they'd have offered the 5 door in an auto over here I could see we'd have changed it for one of those.

Wife has back problems and whilst the ride of the ST was fine for her it was the combo of big chunky doors in tight spaces, and the manual box that meant she had to swap for a 5 door auto of some varient (the Cooper S).

But it was a cracking little car, made lovely wooshy noises, and for the money compared to todays stuff it seems a relative bargain.

Funny this thread got a bump, I went to Ford yesterday and drove the new Fiesta ST and it was bloody brilliant. I quite liked the fast steering, the throttle was immediate and the torque was impressive! Even made a decent noise. I was seriously impressed, I was not expecting to laugh my head off the whole time. Ride is alot better than the MK7 aswell.

Mine's a '16 plate which has the revised setup but having driven both, there's not all that much in it and it's still definitely on the firm side. If it were a proper daily I think it'd be a bit much but it's really just a weekend car tbh so it doesn't bother me.

It was still a cracking little car, preferred it to the Mini that replaced it. Although the Mini did make some obnoxious pops and bangs.

They're great cars, I really enjoy mine. I have the performance pack so it has the LSD and around country roads it's a hoot, it does have the turning circle of a barge at low speed though.

Luckily the car I drove had the pp fitted. Going around a roundabout and nail it you can feel it pulling you in, so much grip in a little car! I think I may have to get one....

A couple of weeks after I got mine I went on a long weekend in the Lakes and it was the perfect conditions for having fun in the car. If you do get one I don't think you'll regret it.

I’ve never tried the mk8 but probably should. I miss my ST but probably rose tinted glasses. Remember getting home first night, lying in bed and feeling my back tighten up. The ride is that hard. That was a later 2016 one as well.

I’ve been put off the new one mainly because A) it’s a 3 cylinder and B) they are far more expensive than the mk7. They were a no brainier at £16k.
