Those of you that have been to ClioSport Festival before will know that every year we hold a massive raffle of prizes to raise money for a chosen charity. In the past we have raised in excess of £1000 over the weekend for some great causes.

Last year was the first time we gave you the members a chance to choose the charity.. this year we would like to do the same. So we have created a short list of charities for you to vote for. The one with the most votes will be approached and subject to approval will be the charity we raise money for this year. We've tried to span a wide range of charity types to suit most peoples preferences.

Last year you chose The Guide Dog and we raised £1107 from the raffle + £121 in direct donations.

The shortlist is as follows:

Action For Children
From before they are born until they are into their twenties, we help disadvantaged children across the UK.
We help them through fostering or adoption – and by intervening early to stop neglect and abuse. We make life better for children with disabilities. We influence policy and advocate for change. Our 7,000 staff and volunteers operate over 522 services, improving the lives of 301,000 children, teenagers, parents and carers every year. We succeed by doing what’s right, doing what’s needed, and doing what works for children.

Calm
The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is an award-winning charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. In 2015, 75% of all UK suicides were male.

Crisis
We work directly with thousands of homeless people every year. We provide vital help so that people can rebuild their lives and are supported out of homelessness for good. We offer one to one support, advice and courses for homeless people in 12 areas across England, Scotland and Wales. How we help someone depends on their individual needs and situation. It could be with finding a home and settling in, getting new skills and finding a job, or help with their health and wellbeing. We use research to find out how best to improve our services, but also to find wider solutions to homelessness. Together with homeless people and Crisis supporters, we campaign for the changes needed to end homelessness for good.

Dementia UK
Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through our Admiral Nurse service.
Admiral Nurses provide the specialist dementia support that families need. When things get challenging or difficult, our nurses work alongside people with dementia, and their families: giving them one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions. The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline–it helps families to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.

Mind
We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding. We won't give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets support and respect.
Every year, one in four of us will experience a mental health problem. But hundreds of thousands of people are still struggling. We believe no-one should have to face a mental health problem alone. We’ll listen, give you support and advice, and fight your corner.

Prostate Cancer UK
Prostate Cancer UK has a simple ambition - to stop men dying from prostate cancer. Through shifting the science over the next 10 years to focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support, we will stop prostate cancer being a killer.

I voted for Calm, a mate I worked with every day hung himself 2 years ago just before Xmas, he hid his depression so well no one had a clue until it was too late, when he hadn't heard from him for a while his Dad went round his flat on Xmas week to see if he was alright, he let himself in and found his son hanging from the bathroom door, he'd been dead for 2 weeks.

What I saw it do to his family and his children was devastating, seeing his 15 year old son collapse on the pavement screaming as they took his Dads coffin out the hearse will stay with me forever.

No one should have to go through that kind of pain, so anything that can be done to get through to them before they do something drastic is a good thing.

People can vote twice then! Not that it matters as they're all worthwhile causes ?
Can’t really stop that but need to give everyone a chance to vote :)
Exactly.. it’s not the general election were dealing with here it’s a charity raffle ?

Mate, my deepest condolences.

My mum has dementia and it’s getting worse very quickly. It’s heartbreaking.
It’s very difficult for anyone who sees a loved one go through it, my mum would have moments where she would ask what’s wrong with her ?

I’ve gone with CALM. Lost a mate 13 months ago to suicide and since then I’ve been staggered at the stories I’ve heard from others and how common it is.

All extremely worthwhile charities though.

Dementia UK for me. My Nan sadly suffered with this for such a long time and passed in 2014. It’s so upsetting how fast people can deteriorate and also upsetting to see how badly it affects family members through the whole process.

Some great charities listed though!

Brilliant charity, I've used their services myself and can say they're spot on the mark.

Who goes on the main page? ?? Can things like this be added as a banner at the top to appear in every page, like adverts do non some forums?
