Cup road noise

Hey

I'm thinking of returning to a Renaultsport Clio, in the form of a 172 Cup.

I sold an Ibiza Cupra, and wouldn't mind a nice cheap Cup.

One thing that annoyed me about the Cupra was the road noise - SEAT really went to town with the "lets make this thing extremelly cheaply" ethos.

Is the 172 Cup bareable on the road? The Cupra was unbelievably crashy, and the tyre roar was unbearable - 205/40/17 Pirelli P Zero Neros.

My mates normal 172 is serene, compared to the Cupra, and I could easily live with it. Is the Cup much different to the normal 172?

Thanks

I've had my Cup for a few weeks now and use it for a 50 mile commute every day. Road noise is'nt an issue for me, although with thinner side glass than a 172 FF maybe it is a touch louder.

Seats look sh*te but are comfy and hold you nicly in place as that track prepped suspension weaves you over the cambers ;-)

Love it!

Ok thanks. The mk4 Cupra TDI I had was the loudest car I have ever owned, it made speaking in the car impossible, aswell as listening to music.

Also, what is the situation with Pilot Exaltos? I will be getting these IF I get a Cup, but I have heard that they are being phased out or something? :( Best road tyre I've used.

I wouldn't say it's quiet at all, and the stiff suspension makes it very crashy. Motorway driving is quite loud, and you can hear the wind pushing over the car constantly.

+1

Mine is running a Ktec stealth exhaust.......so most of the noise I hear is from that.......motorway revs are high-ish.....

.....I dont seem to notice road noise particulary......my drivers wingmirror whistles slightly tho.....and the ride is pretty harsh ftw (standard spgs+damps)

Road noise lol. Never been a issue for me and ive stripped it to make way for a cage. Its the creeks, rattles and engine noise that will crack you up ;)

  Ph1
Yokohama Parada's for a nice comfy low noise tyre. Quietest tyre iv ever had on the Clio anyway.

Cant beat a bit of rawness, hard suspension and exhaust noise. Its part of the hot hatch fun

Cheers guys.

Was the sound deadening ripped out of the Cups? I had Cup suspension on my old 182 back in the day, and from what I remember, the ride was excellent (I'm speaking relative to this Cupra TDI that I used to have).

If the Cups are no louder than, say, an ordinary Clio 1.2 16v "Expression" or whatever, then I would find that acceptable.

  182
personally i notice the difference in NVH in my cup compared to my old 172, but i'd say the difference is in wind noise rather than tyre roar etc.

however once i'd fitted a decat to both, i never noticed it in the 172 but with the cup it made a big difference

  182 FF
I have a seat leon tdi fr as a company car, that is all road noise and worse than the clio imo,

  CLIO 172X2 E46 M3
ive got two clio 172's both wit goodyear f1's on both are fine on the road but randomly the lower miler version sounds alot quieter on the motorway,, work that out lol

  Vw caddy tdi
ph1 I have suffers from excess road noise on pe2s imo, not sure about cups on contis but the 172cups do have less sound proofing than a ph1 so?

Are the Ibiza's that bad lads for noise? lol
and what model are we talking about...

Owned a few clios and never got noise apart from annoying little squeaks inside
the car mostly the glovebox

Dash doesnt rattle like my Peugeot, but the tyres can be heard fairly loudly inside.

If your that bothered, buy something thats silent.

Gota take the rough with the smooth. Like said already, its part of the fun.
