Dead Xbox 360

I posted on here a couple of days ago saying how my 360's DVD drive stopped reading any discs. Anyway UPS picked it up today to go for repair - the courier looked at the address (being Havant and like 6 or 7 miles from Portsmouth) and said "lemme guess... an Xbox 360?"

I said "yes" He then told me "around 800 of these consoles go to that location everyday and a 7 and a half tonne artic truck takes them away"

I was like "hhmm once the year's warranty is up it's definitely going to die"

its really not good, especially when people's warranties run out and they fook up, I'm not going to be impressed if mine dies after 12 months, its an expensive console for 1 year.

nah sponge wont do it - need a thick towel to cover all the vents so it over heats - but then yours sounds like a different problem to what most people get.

Mine was fooked upon delivery, sent it back to Play, got another from Game, 3weeks use and it turned to s**t again. Got a refund and have left it at that.

mine only seems to die on certain games?, ive never played a dvd on it so i dunno if that would trigger the lights of death?

all my games i have g.o.w saints row etc work no problem, it would only crash on certain games like dead rising and nfs carbon?

haven't had any problems with mine (touch wood) and ive had it since xmas.

play tonnes of games on it too.

Had mine since christmas and has been used for around 150 hours max. I was always a little dubious about the drive, since I've had it. It's or was as noisy as F***.

Mine went about two week ago. Finally got it back yesterday and everything is a-ok. Even sounds quieter lol!

It's built by Microsoft so it comes as no surprise, love to know the failure rate on them over a 3 year period - must be woeful.

I'm guessing this XB Elite update will house some significant unpublished changes to circumvent the problems so many are having, as it must be causing them a real headache too.

I'm sure that the next consoles will all house solid state XXGB drives as Dell for example are now shipping some laptops with 32GB flash drives. More reliable, smaller form factor, quieter, and probably soon enough they'll be economical aswell.

I think the only hope is that Microsoft sort these issues out as it is the only source of negative press on the 360.

They have lost around £300 million this year I think on the 360 - but to them that is nothing. The Xbox is part of their long term vision.

I am waiting for the Elite before getting one, hopefully that will be ok!

Elite was launched today in the US, but no word on when (more importantly if) it's going to show up in blighty.
