Debate: chavness’ 172 Vs VTS





all depends where you live

ive seen more clios than saxos locally, in fact the only saxos i have seen round here have been tastefully modified, with only a couple even putting lexus lights on

see more puntos, corsas, fiestas than saxos here :(
 


Blaze - so the Clio 182 Nescafe Cup doesnt actually exist??? I was told this on good authority :confused:

ukaskew - Must depend on where you are in the country I guess, my College car park has always been a good indicator of the trends amongst chav society and not a single 172 or 182 has passed through the car park since Ive worked there. Seen one or two VTRs and one VTS, but the Clios are generally modded 1.2s.

The above is due to the fact most insurers want you to be 21+ to insure one... but now you can pick em em for nowt, so expect not to be able to get a space at college soon, they will be taken by 172s with those ever so tasteful Lexus lights ;)

saxo vtr and vts = chav mobile
106 GTi = grown ups saxo (much more rare, less chavved up and much better all round)
172/182 = grown ups 106 GTi. (about the same handling but better interior and faster)

i think the clio is gonna be the new saxo

im not bothered, one of the reasons i got one is cos my mates all got clios, we can mod em together, its like a hobby

i also brought it cos i like it

and on another note, when the saxo was at its most chavish reputation, i nearly brought one, not for that reason, but simply its a fast flingable hot hatch that i could mod with my friends.

i hate chav arguments. i dont c the problem, chav is just a character of person, what would humans b without character? wed all drive ford mondeos.

i like the saxo vts!! good performance and handling! for a relatively cheap car! easily modified.....why does everyone hate them so much? i can see why ppl hate vtrs...ppl who own them think they r the fastest cars on the road! and theyre everywhere!but then again so are clios!

who cares which is the most chav?......ITS THE DRIVER WHAT MAKES THE CAR CHAV!!!!!!!!

what a load of rubbish - infact i cant believe im going to leave a post about this topic

i had a vts til may (when i bought a 182 - cheers dave182!!)

i bought both cars coz they handled well, are nippy and look good (yes i think the vts looked good) the vts was also quite a rare motor

i looked after the vts - no mods or pimping, and it was reliable

and my final comment - how could a 29 year old geography teacher possibly be a chav (i have a tweed jacket for gods sake!! - no leather patches yet)

Theres no such thing as a chav car when it comes out the factory, I have seen and admired many std VTs and pmsl at many a chaved up clio!

It is the person who chavs up a car, cars are designed by engineers and not spotty teenagers for a good reason!!!

Interesting thread this one.

Again people are making the mistake of comparing new against old...

172/182s are not YET chavvy because aforementioned chavs cannot yet afford to buy them and afford insuance. The fact that Renault have priced them so cheaply compared to the competition (how expensive is the C2 VTS/GT?) that, given a few more years when the current trend of chav cars has passed (and it will), that the next batch will be dictated by the cheapest available sporty options: i.e. 172 Mk1s.

It will be then that the 172 becomes well and truly chavd up....

VTSs arent a chavs car as standard anyway, a car only becomes chav when crappy modifications have been done to it, against its will... (Burberry repsray anyone!?!)

i would disagree with this, I think that the clios insurance group puts it out of reach of the young chavs, they cant afford group 16 insurance now and they wont be able to when the clio is going cheap, that is the thing that will keep it out of reach of most young chavs. Theyd much rather spend less on insurance and more on DTM spoilers.

Maybe, but then what is the group of the VTS?

I honestly dont know what it is, but Id imagine that it is fairly similar, maybe a group or two less. Just been anwered above! So, if taking insurance into comparison, it becomes a negligable factor. If chavs can afford insurance on a VTS, then they can also afford it on a 172...

Im not a particular fan of the VTS, as Im not a big fan of the image the Saxo (unfairly?) has.... Id rather a 106 GTi..... (ooops, worms everywhere!)

ok thats fair enough, the 106 GTi was only a 12 (maybe 13) yet was the same car and speed (handled better).

Maybe my gripe is more with the vtr crew as owning a 106 GTi I know what a VTS is capable of. You see more extreme modded VTRs than VTSs becasue again, its a more mature person that owns the VTS because of insurance reasons.

this is my problem really, I am biased because owning a 106 GTi I always saw the VTS as an inferior car as I liked my GTi.

I liked the VTS when it came out and nearly bought one had it not been for the 106 which I found nicer (leather seats) handled better and was more rare.

SO I am biased.

I am too mate, I had a 106 XSi for a while and absolutely loved it, rattles and all! Am now looking to get a GTi in the summer. Dont know what it is but the GTi is just so much more desirable than the VTS.

But..... I dont think the VTS is a chavs car unless it has been modified. I think these sorts of cars are best left completely standard appearance-wise, with performance mods allowed to make the most of that tuned 1.6 engine!

Chavs are little snots who can only dream of owning a Vts or 172.

If the so called "Chavs" could afford to run and insure either we are all doomed.

You have to remember that to finance Vtss and 172s the chavs usually need whats called "A job"

I disagree with you saying plenty have Vtss and 172s.Part of what makes them chavs is owning a wannabie car.They try hard to make theirs appear to be a Vts or 172 when its not.

Although it seems whenever people try to have a bit of harmless fun and a laugh, someone complains that its not a serious thread and should be deleted. Why?

I can understand the point of deleting threads about racing, but who cares if some of these posts are a bit silly? If you dont like whats going on in a thread and no harms caused, why cant people just not post and click the ever-faithful back button?

I have got 6 pairs of tracky bottoms, 9 pairs of trainers, i enjoy modding cars, id love a 17yo bird but have a 26yo one instead, i have silver jewellery, i wear baseball caps, i work in an office for the MOD and have a respectable income.

Am i a Chav???

172/CUP/182 will never be a Chavs car end of.

Williams and Valver never became chavs cars, VTS wont become a chavs car, escort cossy/Focus RS wont etc etc.

Its only those that cannot afford insurance/finance/running costs/servicing of the Sports ranges from Ford/Renault/Citroen etc etc so they feel there cars are inadequte and have to MOD them to make them look faster & better then what they really are.
