Degreasing engine bay

I spent a long time yesterday cleaning my subframe. It was covered in oily dirt, that didnt really come off with normal car shampoo/w'up liquid. In the end I found white spirit worked a treat.

The subframe is being resprayed, but I'd like to avoid a repspray for the time being in my engine bay. Will white spirit ruin the paint work? is there something better I could be using? It's the same thick coating of oily dirt.

Its what I use to clean up all sorts of Components in the Engine, Cleans up TB a Treat, Removed the Grease from the Driveshaft when I needed a new boot and clip with ease so should work nicely

Gunk is good, but be prepared for your engine bay stinking of it.
Then again, must smell better than white spirit.:dapprove:
