Depressurising fuel system

  172 Ph1/Scooby MY00
I want to change my fuel filter (172 ph-with-an-external-fuel-filter) and I think before I unclip the connections I should depressurise the system. Question is how?

I think you can do it by removing the fuel pump fuse and then trying to start the engine, but I don't know which fuse it is.

Any help appreciated.

You can do the above, however if your quick you can just disconnect the first hose on the filter (have a bowl to hand underneath) let it trickle a little bit of fuel into the bowl. Remove the other hose, remove the filter and slot the new filter in, connecting the hoses back up.

Dont put your head under the hoses!! Best wear eye & hand protection.

The new filter has stops on each end, leave one stop in connect the first hose the other end, then when your ready remove the last stop and connect the last hose.

The hoses have easy clip on ends onto the filter..iirc they are green tabs you push in to release.

3bar in that line, i would unclip it at the fuel rail (put a cloth over it as you do it, close your eyes, scream like a girl and look away!!!)

then change the filter, i've had a fuel line pop off in my face, i was blind for 20min LOL

That's encouraging, uhmm. Thanks both. Maybe Carlton Garage might fancy this job!

Pfft. I never really de-pressurise, just undo fuel filter pipe and take it off over a bowl, if you take it off slowly and carefully the pressure will bleed off easily.

Or if you leave it overnight it usually loses most of it's pressure all by itself.

I cant remember how long my car was not driven for but there was no pressure build up, just a little bit of fuel trickled out the hose.

I'll try leaving it overnight and then try it.

Depressurising the fuel system was easy in the end, I got lucky and picked the right fuse to remove in the engine bay. All done and I swear it runs better for a new filter. The old filter was cut open and looked very dirty.

So you just unclamp the filterlines with a cloth over it to reduce chance of jetting fuel in your eyes?

I found the fuel filter under the car on the right hand side, close to the tank. That's the one isn't it?
