Detailing Chat & Questions Thread

As long as you tell the dealer you don't want it touched etc it should come pretty swirl free. If there are a few marks etc Hex pads Blue probably and Menz 4000 will do the trick nicely. If it was mine however i'd be giving it the full works as Ford paint is incredibly orange peeled :( but that would take serious work obviosuly.

CQUK is a great product, brought the ST I did over the weekend up lovely!

its a lease car, so going be too much trouble to tell the lease company to tell ford dealer not to prep lol, plus the car will be driven to me so if it comes without prep i wont be able to see any proper defects upon delivery!

so im a bit confused now, its a 2 year lease i do not want to spend big money on getting it detailed by a pro

all i want is decent paint work with a decent gloss, decent beading and water sheeting that lasts at least 6 months, more the better

ive had cquk on my octavia vrs last year and was very easy maintenance, am also looking for other alternatives too

i wouldn't mind an AIO like tripple or SRP topped with a decent wax

any recommendations?

Ah fair enough.

Blue Hex pad £8.00
Menz 4000 £12.00
CQUk w/Reload £48.00

obviously you have the Das and other decon stuff, and everything else needed. Will be perfect, CQUK will give 12 months plus protection if applied right and then top up with reload will leave it glossy with excellent water behaviour and seriously easy maintenance.

thanks mate, just the info i needed

yeh got tardis, ironx, clay, even got a bottle of reload that i bought last year (i need o check the expiry on it), also got new bottle of C5 for alloy

would the 30ml do the fiesta? http://www.carpro.uk.com/cquartz-uk-edition-30ml-kit-w-reload/ or would i need the 50ml?

also how many layers do you recommend? 2 from 30ml bottle?

If you're confident enough to apply go for it. Scrooge is spot on. Obviously eraser also needed.

If you have time and space to apply i'd apply 2 coats.

Why would you bother with 2 coats? If you make sure your coverage is spot on the first time (fairly easy tbh)

Thanks guys. Yeh seems they have made cquk 2014 easier to apply. I had the older cquk put on by a pro on my last car which seemed to be a bit more fiddly to get I perfect.

Interesting though cquk now state 2 year protection on cquk 2014.

For me the Polish bit will be the tricky part . Not an expert using das6!

Fingers crossed the prep monkeys haven't knackered the paint then ;)

You should be ok, watch a few videos and practice your technique

Those blue drying towels? I wouldn't use any bar the yellow plush i4d/PB ones on bodywork now. Those blue ones are like sandpaper in comparison.

Na, meant the duo edgless grey microfibers. Link to these plush ones please!?

Any one tried the AF duo edgless yet? Ordered five along with their great value drying towels. I'm impressed with the duo towels, really soft. Bought them for the vee but yet to try them!

Think Gally was referring to the above highlighted.

Can't beat the uber plush towels from i4d / polished bliss / elite

Quick effort on one of my headlights... First time giving it a go and it needs more work which I'll hopefully do before work tomorrow but still an improvement :)

I'm interested in giving my car a decent clean. It's been thoroughly neglected since I bought it, not washed once it in my ownership (hosed it down once with pressure washer) so am feeling like it's maybe a little over due.

I know to wash it using 2 bucket method, but I would like to try to remove contaminants as well. I was thinking clean + dry, iron x, tardis, clay?, polish then wax.

I don't own any cleaning bits at the moment so will have to buy everything, any suggestions for the best website? I will have a search for best products to use but if anyone has suggestions then I am all ears.

Is it worth me looking into buying a dual action? Or just try to find someone local to give it a days going over

Wash
iron x

tardis

clay

tardis is known to eat away at clay if you don't wash it off first.

eBay for ix and tardis and auto finesse/clean your car/i4detailing for everything else

hi mate, i4detailing are doing 10% off till Monday, code: MAY14

they don't do Chemical boys blue hex pads, is there an equivalent that they sell that will do the same as the blue hex?

http://www.i4detailing.co.uk/shop/buffing-pads-and-machine-backing-plates.html

they have the menz 4000 and cquk so rather order from same place

thanks

The CCS pads are good too, but have a tendancy to go nuclear when too much heat is applied. Via DA they're good. Rotary, they're a liability.

Standard DAS6
Hexlogic black or blue, white and green pads
Menzerna PF2300(3.02), PF2500(203s) and SF4000(106fa)

tried and tested and if in stock will come out fractionally cheaper than the Sonus kit. I've never used myself or know anyone that has used sonus compounds or pads.

Need another polish. I've got power finish and super finish but neither are offering a good enough cut on the Clio, clarity is massively improved but I didn't want to go looking for full correction first time round anyway. Like the Menz stuff so what shall I go for?

Menz 2500 with the correct technique and pad combo should do the trick without you having to refine too hard.
