To a degree these are all pretty much the same. Most of the time you pay for brand/internet chat. I appreciate there is some not so good stuff out there.

It's a hobby at the end of the day otherwise people would just use srp and extra gloss and be done with it lol

Has anyone still not received their 30ml bottle of C4 off amazon? Remember the stupidly cheap deal they did. Mines still not even here and it just says they will email me when its back in stock. Any ideas?

I've got exactly the same issue. I have done a we chat with Amazon a week ago and they said I will get it. They did offer to cancel the order but I said I want the item. Hope I get it. I checked and Amazon have charged me for it already.

Well thats reassuring. You took the step I was going to do next - contact them. Im pretty sure ive been charged for it too which isnt really on. Any time before christmas would be good please Mr Amazon.

No need to polish then! Nice!

On white and silver I prefer to use a warmer coloured light (more yellow) or, if you can, work in a dimly lit area or on a gloomy day as in direct sunlight it's fairly difficult to find swirls on light coloured cars.

Haha! That's a good point. Unfortunately it's the dreaded petrol station lights at night situation that grinds my gears when I see all the scratches and swirls. Thanks for the heads up. I'm used to detailing in a fluorescent tube lit garage so maybe it's time to dim them and get a warm colour lamp?

Ah brilliant, if you're working in a garage I'd get some spot lighting instead of the fluorescent tube lighting.

If you're not bothered about concourse levels of detailing you could probably get 85% of the swirls out by making a test spot and find a combination that'll get the desired result and just use that over the whole car.

Bit of a 'lazy' way to do it but it'll save you switching on and off your lights a thousand times.

Im not after concourse simply because its a car I intend to use!

Thats a pretty good idea, I had never considered that option. I have found that the light on my phone seems to show them up pretty well so i might do a small bonnet test and go from there.

I have the hex logic pads with some different meguiars cutting and polishing compounds - Ultimate compound, Speed Glaze (I think) and one other. How does the Ultimate compound stand up to renault paint which I know is quite soft? Say with a medium cut pad?

Ahh I don't know the meguiars line very well. I've got m105 and m205 as a compound and finishing polish and I think the ultimate compound sits in between those two.

If you've got something less abrasive I'd try that first (take as little paint off as you can), but ultimate compound and a medium pad should work well.

The main thing to keep in mind is that the meguiars stuff is SMAT (super micro abrasive technology) which is a non diminishing abrasive so you'll have to stop either when the pad is clogged or when you're happy with the result. After that you'll have to scale down to a finishing product for a better finish.

Main difference I find with a DAT (diminishing abrasive technology) (menzerna, gyeon, rupes, scholl) you'll generally finish better even when using a heavier cut.

Not sure what else I have that's less abrasive! I've got some SRP but unsure if that's less or more abrasive. I've also got a 1 step from autobrite that's blue in colour cant remember the name of it!

SRP is mostly fillers and cleaner, not much correction so yes that's less abrasive but I'd just stick to the ultimate compound and medium pad and see what kind of result you get. If you're happy with the result, winning! And if you're not happy with the result you can always try to pick up a different pad/polish.

That's what I was thinking. I'm gonna give it a go with a medium pad and go from there. If I dont get the results I want, I'll up the pad. If I still dont get results then I'll look for another compound.

As a general rule of thumb, how many passes to people make before assessing correction? If you take a 1ft x 1ft area, using the cross hatch method, how many passes?

The only real answer to that is 'it depends', altough I realise that doesn't help you!

I usually do three or four passes, but sometimes you put a bit too much polish on and do five or six or it's hot and dry outside and the polish is drying up then two might work better. But I mainly use diminishing polishes which you might want to work longer to finish better.

Also depends on how hard your paint is, what pad you have, machine speed you use etc etc.

Maybe someone with some more experience with ultimate compound can chime in but I'd say make 2-3 passes, then check and clean your pad. Best to use an IPA based product for inspection as leftover oils from the polish might cover up swirls.

Shampoo. What we using and has anyone tried a cheap but good one.

May try the meguires after a quick look. £15 for 1.9l..

Looking for a wax safe but effective etc
