Did all the PH1 172's have.... And a few more Q's

Hi all

Did all the PH1 172's have black door (body) mouldings??

Also, in the general opinion of forum members what are the first mods you should do to one, in general not just engine..

Ive been around cars long enough, had loads but never a 172 and although Ive only done 150 odd miles in it I love it so much fun to drive to work...

Just seen a couple with silver and wasnt sure if mine was odd, however i do think the black breaks it up a bit and I have black wheels too

I was going to get PH2 side strips for mine then decided against it. I love the black, it makes the car look more aggressive and old skool which is what I love about the car.

The only PH2 part on my car is the lights which I think suit it and don't soften it.

I've got no more PH2 plans for my car though.

I'd also rather keep my door mouldings black..

Also, where is the post that has pics of all the variants of the Clios? I saw it earlier but can't find it now:(

I kept my bump stripes black, looks more original then. All i've done to mine is put some eibach sportlines on to sharpen up the handling and lower it a little, meggy splitter on the front and ph2 rear lights.

Anything more than that isn't improving it imo, they look better with most of the original stuff on.

I personally prefer my ph2 strips and ph2 bullets, think it makes the car look a little more modern, although I still have the original black strips in the garage should I want to return it to standard one day !

Edit and a picture before - I can kind of see where you're coming from with the more aggressive look but I still think I prefer ph2 :eek:

Aluco, they do look nice I admit but it loses some aggression in my opinion.

My car has black wheels on it too, will post a pic in a min but its a crap one.

No they are 15's, I don't really want bigger wheels to be honest just another set the same with 888's for track days

Thanks Danno, just don't know what I want to do to it

It's already got a stainless powerflow and decat, air filter in std airbox and lowered springs

Edit: As for what I'd do to your car

Cup or Trophy/v6 spoiler
Ph2 colour coded side strips
Smoked side repeaters
Ph2 rear bumper (this isnt popular with some people but I'm all for the upgraded "ph1.5" look)
Ph2 rear lights
Flat wipers
Silver vision bulbs all round
Xenon conversion (easy to do)

VERY nice car you have there though mate :)

Yodi, definitely get some HIDs in there ! soo much brighter at night at look so much nicer. I have temperature 6000k bulbs, nice white with a slight hint of blue.

Back mate. Fronts would require a whole PH2 front end.

Thanks for the replies guys...

The cars got HID conversion already but 8000k so too blue for my liking, so I will be changing them to the 4300 as they are my favourite.

I will 100% do the rear lights and darker side indicators, not clears.. I also prefer the Ph1 door mouldings they go better with my wheels..

I will look at the rear bumper differences now :)

Your car looks realy good Aluco.

The ph1's look good with varying amounts of ph2 parts. Thats what I like about them, its easy to be individual.

Splitter and sportlines next for mine. Pics from the NW meet on Saturday highlighted the need for this. Also want either new or PC'd dual optics and a wheel refurb, the list is endless realy.

Brett looking at your pics and my car, dont you agree the wheels need to come out a little further 8 - 10mm??

Is this common or does no one bother?

I do agree I was going to post a thread about spacers. I have heard some negatives about them, some even causing wheels to come off. I may look into some good ones though.

All about hubcentric spacers if they are available for our cars, the jap boys run 30/40/50mm spacers whilst drifting and never have issues

Looking forward to seeing what your gonna do with this mate. If you don't want the HID's I'll take them off your hands ;)

And Aluco, Vee's dont count, not much is interchangeable, other than the spoiler which i've listed as trophy ;)

Its quite commom to stick 5mm spacers on the ph1's. Brings the foot print bascially up to Cup spec too which improves the handling by a mile plus obviously looks better.

Leave the ph2 tat to the ph2's imo - ;)

Tom is that near the chevin ? looks decent, your car also looks cool on F1's :cool:

I really need to clean mine, it's utter ming. Seen yours in halfords today when I drove past and noticed you haven't cleaned yours either ;)

Guys are the headlight bulbs just H4's??

also, where is the best place to buy a Balljoint from and other normal service parts... I have trade accounts with motor factors but is there anywhere else?

Nice car dude.. I personally prefer the Ph2 Side Strips, although most are keen on the original as you can tell...

As for the Ph2 Rear Bumper... its a big no no for me, the original looks cleaner IMO, more curved to suit the car, Ph2 is a bit more square and don't really suit, Robbos is probably referring to me when he says about some people don't like it :rasp:

The bulbs for your car are HB3 or 9005, hope this helps

Haha.. Yeah its all down to personal taste mate, what ever makes you happy go for it! HB3 and 9005 are the same bulb type mate, and yeah thats for dipped (main) beams
