dmallett's indecisive clio thread! Monaco ph2 pg1+, Titanium ph1 pg31+, PB ph1 pg43+

  ph1 172
Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

I have one too but they don't have a speed controller so it either on or off. Their okay

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Just for doing things like top mounts really, obviously I'm going to be taking bits off all over the place, if it saves me time messing about with a stuff that's tight as I'm weak!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

And the breaking has begun, only doing small bits at current that leave the car drivable until the end of the month.
Tax came through for the monaco, its now £143 for 6months! I swear it keeps going up?
PH1 is being dropped off Thursday night.

Oh and if anyone wants a 421'd engine in a few weeks let me know :)

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

And so it begins.

I now own a ph1 on 89k :)

Few things about the car.
Belts done in 2011 at 62k by BTM.
Matched inlets
Decat
Piper exhaust
My original pikey induction kit
Half cage
Cobra seats
Raceland coilovers
Flocked Dash

The williams wheels on it arent mine, yes i bought a car with out wheels :p

And various other bits and bobs.

So the plan?
Well the plan is to build between my 2 clios one decent one to exactly how I want it. The ph1 will run a standard engine with no aircon, the matched inlets and some form of induction kit with a decatted piper system. The clio has a very strong engine in it, Rhys Beal will vouch for me on that as hes played with it on the old airfield near us.
The whole interior will be stripped down and refitting with a the ph2 interior. I will be using my cobra imola 2 as a drivers seat and the cobra monaco as a passenger seat. The car will retain its full interior except for rear seats, the cage will have harness bars added to it and i will run 4 point harness's either side, this will also be sprayed black to be as descreet as a cage can ha.
Suspension/brakes wise the following will be fitted to the ph1 from the ph2; spax coilovers, whiteline arb, 25mm front spacers, 5mm rear, brembo hc discs, mintex m1155 front pads, standard spec brembo rear discs and pads. My OZ F1's will be going onto the ph1 with 595 RS-R's, eventually these will be painted silver to make the car look pretty much normal.

If that all makes sense then that is my plan :) And i know people will wonder why the epic 421'd engine wont be going in the ph1 simply because I want to run a stanard engine to keep all options open for the future for the car as pursuing the N/a route leads to me being bored and changing car every few months ;)

The remainder of the parts will be sold and the ph2 broken (sorry Dan, you can slap me when you see me!)

Anyway thats the most ive ever written on here so some s**t pictures as per usual.

Progress has already begun, the exhaust was broken so thats now off to have a shim put over the centre section and re-welded. Exhaust bar that split is in very good condition, i expect the silly lows this car has may of caused it!

Cheers for reading :) thread should be getting updated quite abit in the coming month. Oh and ill ask a mod to change the thread title as and when I think of something!

yeah you bought the Bodies i was going to buy but the sensible thing kicked in to my head of it not been the best of moves on my high miler lump so passed them up and going to spend the money on a rebuild instead

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Ph1 = win. That is awesome mate.

Cheers! And yes ph1 is instant win.

Looks smart on the white williams wheels!! shame they aren't staying on.
[/QOUTE]

it does, these are the same wheels I had on my flame red ph1 about 18months ago, as awesome as they look they are hard to keep clean so I didn't want them.

Worst thread ever

I can feel the bitterness from here :(

Builds stripped out Ph1 - Too hardcore
Buys 350gayz - too good
Builds stripped out Ph2 - Too soft, gets dogs abuse
Buys already hardcore Ph1

Just trying to sum this up

;)

Welcome back

Standard Fuel pressure Reg Timmy, leave it alone, no gains to be had f**king about with it.

Also Dave is correct. Almost, I'll sum it up quicker.

Had right 172,
Bought some other random s**t.
Now has a nearly right 172.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

That's on the ph1 right? Fuel return I think

Correct, hadnt seen one before so was confused. Obviously the flamer didnt have the original fuel rail/

FLOL! <3 to you both,

Yeh I messed up with the flamer, now im making lots of mess/needless destruction to make a decent ph1. I hope it turns out ok.

As for that fuel thingy, am i right in thinking the hose leads back to the inlet manifold just after the throttle body? I didnt pay much attention when taking it off thinking it was one of those acoustic valve things talk about!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Your flamer was probably new in 2001 I'd guess because the last of the ph1's had the same rail as the ph2

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Yeah thats early ph1 set up your flamer, and mine for that matter run the later system. Daves Chav ran early. Makes no odds really.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

My old Y did too but an X I had didn't have the FPR rail?! Strange, or just Renault.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

I think your right John,

Progress is under way today! Its like 27'c and ive been slaving away, i was also making a bracket for the head light and the drill piece snapped and had gone through my thumbnail. Gutted as that was my last 3.2mm drill bit so the bracket will have to wait :(

Oh and I actually hate this car already! Will update/explain later.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Started work on the ph1 yesterday, progress so far.

Slam pannel removed
Aircon pump and pipe work out, blanked off pipe work in bulk head.
Alternator and PAS pump & brackets off. Ready for me to fit the airconless setup from the monaco. Also blanked off the aircon pipes in the bulkhead.
Radiator & hoses off. Ready for polo Rad & silicone hoses from the monaco.
Head light removed and new brackets made to hold it in place.
Rocker cover sprayed with VHT paint.
Horn attached as it was literally just held on by the cables.
Carbon Cannistor Removed.
Nasty heat shield removed in engine bay ready to be replaced by nimbus shield.
Fixed exhaust all thanks to Dad!

After Day 1,

Aircon pipework pikey blank,

Dead Weight, alternator bolt sheared in the back of it so thats going in the bin and leaky hoses too!

Hopefully this will last, you can see where the exhaust has been rewelded round the flange previously and few bits on the silence. None of which were done when Steve owned the car so its probably a 3 year old system at least.
null-108.jpg

Random picture of mess, and thats not coolant on the floor thats tap water from when I tried to remove any left over s**t from the engine ;)
null-109.jpg

I also got a bit of sun burn, this was taken this morning.
null-107.jpg

Hopefully progress will pic up abit this week, going to hopefully get another ph2 lower dash so I can do most of the conversion before removing the dash from the monaco. Also need to get the cage out for some harness bars to be added.

Brakes, suspension and remaining need engine bits from the monaco will be fitted the last week of the month as thats when insurances end and then i will insure the ph1. Flux are only wanting £560 everything declared which is a plus!

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Got a few bits done this weekend, in between being sick and sleeping. Blaming wetherspoons food for that!

Been driving the monaco like this for the past week, its now off the road as well as the ph1.
null-149.jpg

My mum has leant me her corsa, 69bhp of pure awesomeness. Its weird driving a normal car and not worrying about stupid things like speed bumps or upsetting people with my loud exhaust.
null-135.jpg

New plugs from G172
null-151.jpg

Old plugs didnt look to bad!
null-152.jpg

Got a sealey impact gun, this is making my life alot easier.
null-150.jpg

Got some oil.
null-148.jpg

Thanks to Renault Wolverhampton i got a new throttle cable, cup aux belt, number plate light and oil filter.
null-146.jpg

Number plate light
null-145.jpg

Suspension and brakes stripped off. All removed from the monaco, all the brakes etc are about 3k old.
null-143.jpg

Old brakes, bit s**t!
null-142.jpg

Doesnt look much better but my spax and brakes fitted with 5mm spacers.
null-139.jpg

Rear racelands off! These came on my flamer and are still in decent condition lol
null-138.jpg

Whiteline fitted
null-140.jpg

Cage out, need to sort out harness bars now.
null-136.jpg

Various bits that I have to make an induction set up for the ph1, unsure what im doing with it probably be similar to the ktec but make it drop into the wheel arch/behind the bumper.
null-147.jpg

Garage filling up nicely.
null-153.jpg

The ph1 now, wheels look s**t. Needs lows also.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

I dont really understand what your doing with this? Making it like your old flamer? Assume your using Dan's engine though?

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Saying im making it like my old flamer is like saying I bought the monaco to be like the flamer.
The clios I have owned have all been made to such a similar spec. I stick to what i know and like i guess?

I prefer ph1's, Steve offered me his so I bought it as I like it.
Taking the bits I like/want off the monaco and breaking the rest.

The 421'd engine is already sold to someone who is collecting it next month. Trust me once youve had your cams for about 6 months you will be bored of it. Im reverting to standard engine, as great as the engine that Dan built is theres little point in swapping it over then getting it mapped again.

chasing figures N/A is f**king pointless.

Re: dmallett's 421'd monaco

Im not chasing figures lol, ive had a near standard engine'd 172's since 2008 :) Im more than happy with my current 180bhp per ton car that calculated does 0-60 just under 6 seconds with it still being a good usable day to day car with full interior, aircon etc. The problem comes when you start stripping it, fitting buckets, cages, stupid loud exhaust etc as after 6 months or so it just gets old and annoying and you want rid, unless you have another daily to drive.
