Do I really need this lump of polystyrene under the steering wheel?

...because I just ripped it out. I've been hunting down an annoying squeak for weeks when I go over bumps. And after taking off the dash and putting it back on again tonight, I then realised it was the lump of polystyrene and steel sheet, glued to the lower plastic steering wheel surround. I'm guessing it is for knee protection maybe?

This has been doing my head in for weeks. Whacking it solves the problem temporarily - but it gets to the point in a Clio where you end up doing a drum solo every time you stop at traffic lights.

I'm slowly working my way through all of mine. After I sorted that steering wheel one I noticed the ash tray was making a quieter squeak. Not a lot of the time though. Should be easy enough to sort if it starts to bug me

I bet that's the squeak on mine when I go over speed bumps too.. Prepare to lower safety rating of car!! Lol

I just turn radio up, got an annoying buzz coming from the clock area, if I push down it stops then comes back minute later.

Also does anyone passenger seat make a rattling noise from underneath does my head in also.

I've got one from between the driver side blower vent and the plastic trim, if i just push it a bit it stops for a while, passenger seat also has a creak when i have a passenger.
Not had this polystyrene one yet!

My car sounds like its got some bluebottles stuck behind the dashboard. I'm tempted to rip the whole thing out and cover it in anti squeak tape.

FLOL i can relate to this so well! I am often sat at traffic lights flailing my arms and fists about at every piece of interior trim within reach to stop annoying rattles lol!

Haha was kidding anyway :rasp:.

I learnt that rattles are inevitable on a clio so just ignore them, does do my head in round my village though as the roads are bumpy and also covered in those shitty little stones as they're redoing the roads.

I sorted the clocks. Get some foam tape, fold it over itself a few times then wedge it between the plastic and the clocks surround on the right hand side

I had a very annoying rattle from the drivers side vent after fittinf my solid engine mount.. i ended up punching the dash and breaking all the little flap things in the vent. Looks s**t now and i cant fix it haha

Next on my list are the 90mph+ two tone high pitch squeals from the windscreen. They make some interesting tunes and warn me to slow down

A friends got that one.. hold up the interior light/head lining and it goes.. he has had his windscreen out and re-sealed we still can't see what it is.

Bet that's coming from the interior light.. It's the climate control sensor iirc
