well iv had alloys on cars for 7 years and steelies before that lol and never curbed an alloy only damaged them in accidents ;)
but no doubt it will happen since iv wrote this post!!!

FFS stop MAKING me reply.

The majority who keep posting 'curb' when they mean 'kerb' are English. It is those people that my original spelling police dig was aimed at. Therefore my point stands. In England, curb does not mean kerb. There is no debate - that factual fact is actually an actual factual fact. Actually.

yeah well like i said im NOT talking about being in England or any other country for that matter of fact, for your actual factual fact list of facts. And as i said before YES your point does stand, from the perspective of categorising language by origin!! As does my point stand when talking about grammer in general.

Hope this doesnt MAKE you reply.
I usually do things out of free will. Actually.

PS: debates contains facts in them aswell just incase you werent aware

Debate or debating is a formal method of interactive and representational argument. Debate is a broader form of argument than logical argument, which only examine the consistency from axiom, and factual argument, which only examine what is or isn't the case or rhetoric which is technique of persuasion. Though logical consistency, factual accuracy as well as some emotional appeal to audience are important elements of the art of persuasion, in debating, one side often prevails over the other side by presenting superior "context" and/or framework of the issue, which is far more subtle and strategic.

See now you've MADE me respond, again.

Pmsl. Your argument is invalid in the context of the original point. You're arguing a point I made, but you're saying something not related to the point I made, and that's now the basis of the continued discussion?

As is always the case when being served, the servee moves the goal posts, shifts things around and attempts to sway the discussion in a different direction in order to mask the original serving. A smoke screen if you will.

In England, where the people I was refering to live, it is incorrect to refer to a kerb as a curb. The End.

no no no that aint what it is at all, how can you not get this, ive stated it already about 2 times, this being the third and last.

your POINT (as you will) is taking into account the nationality of speakers, ie they should adhere to a certain type of english, English english.

my POINT is going against your original statement saying that the spelling is "wrong", looking at it from a general grammatical point of view (FORGET THE BORDERS)

you didnt state at first that you were addressing the English users, and nore was i aware of this, hence i took it as a general statement regarding grammer.

therefor: we both have our points, however they do not over rule each other as they are both addressing the same topic just in different lights.

PS: that was a brilliant "smoke screen" if ever i did see one, props.

Roffle ok dude. I wasn't actually pointing it out directly to just yourself, as plenty of people get it wrong all the time. It was only a light hearted 'spelling police' joke anyway until you tried to own me, so I had to return serve ;)

In English there are two spellings. Curb - to halt or stop. Kerb - roadside edge. The Americans have only one spelling for both meanings - curb. Therefore 'curb' is not acceptable English in England when meaning a roadside edge. Fact

Yes I am joking. I'm also quite serious though :D

ok mate yeah we gotta stop this so thread dont get locked.

however just to end this on the correct note, i missed this somehow, but here we have it, you said it yourself, the same meaning from 2 different words, having different spelling hence not making one correct and one incorrect....rest my case

Forget bout english english and look at the bigger picture

cheers mate, was a good one

Don

pmsl at rest my case. Rest your case where you like dude :D I already said a hundred times I was talking about the English people spelling it wrong. They are. Fact.

Awesome thread. Truly immense.

EDIT: Anyway you know what they say about arguing on the internet. Good debate but it's run its course now as you say. Back on topic, my alloys have never been near a cerb ;)
